If Kobe becomes FA then we could go over the cap (again) and sign Kobe using Bird Rights. Same for Pau. Hopefully they demand reasonable price tag on their contracts.
"All these guys who run these organizations who talk about analytics, they have one thing in common: They're a bunch of guys who ain't never played the game, they never got the girls in high school, and they just want to get in the game."

My understanding is that a team must renounce bird rights in order to sign free agents. So it's not like 2k when you sign 2-3 max deals then lock in your superstar with bird rights unfortunately.
Don't be a jerk.

I really think he's going to sign a 3 year deal worth 60 million

PG seems like he could be even better than Kobe... IMO.

if MJ can go to the wizards. KOBE is man enough to move on as well. The money simply is not there. We would be committing franchise suicide if we committed tons of future $$ on an aging veteran

Q: So that means you won't explore free agency next summer?
Bryant: "Am I a free agent right now? No. Next summer is next summer. How do I know what is going to happen? Jim Buss just said they're going to start conversations now. We will start the conversations and go from there."

He’s a Laker legend and always will be. I don’t think we’re done winning championships with him yet.
This is going to be the problem. As if his legendary status will be diminished by making the best financial decision for the franchise. KOBE understands this. KOBE knows that. KOBE can obviously do the math.
So what they will do is drop him into free agency. Pick up and sign all the star players we need to pay BIG cash for. Then whatever is left on the books, pay KOBE with.
