Wow, we don't have an opening night thread? Just got home to the announcers saying Nicholson scored 18 points in the first half... what's going on?

Magic fan here. Good game, you guys are gonna be good this year your frontline is rock solid. I'm glad we hung in there for a little while at least :) Good luck and we'll see you guys next game. Be nice to see you guys come out of the East rather than the Heat too.

Sorry guys, worked all day until about 630 then my brother came over with a pizza to watch the game so i didnt come online once all day.

They started off amazing (12-0 run) but then things got shaky. Lots of chemistry issues. But they got things under control in the 2nd half. Pacers had no business not being up big on Orlando. I loved their fight and i think their team has a very bright future with Nicholson (who i watched a lot at St Bona) and Oladipo. But, lazy turnovers, timly missed free throws and horrid 3-point shooting in that 2nd quarter really allowed Orlando to get back.

At HT, i think out bench only had 5 points if i recalled? Watson 3 and Scola 2. And they finished with 26. Orlando Johnson looked great, and i am not even talking about just his shooting. He had a few real nice passes and played tough defense. That was good to see.

I wonder how come Chris Copeland didn't even get into the game? Anyone know?

Solomon Hill - looked lost and probably the worst player on the court tonight. I don't know why Vogel put him in so early? Should take their time with him and develop him before throwing him into the fire.

Reports say he's fine. Probably just a mild sprain, as he was able to do things normally with it. I was more concerned about his hand hitting the rim when he went up to reject Maxiell.

Watching the game now (with half an eye, have a lot of work to do) and all I can say is that I really hope that the bench is going to come together, failing that I really hope that Granger comes back and will be able to play more than most of us think at the moment, because this bench is reminding me a lot of last year - different puppets, same ineptitude.

Regarding Copeland: He didn't play a lot in the pre-season either I believe (from what I saw), I wonder if Vogel is unhappy with him. We do need him though, so I hope he can prove him wrong.

Finally: Oladipo looks like a hero, getting blocked twice and still going inside at every opportunity, call it youthful enthusiasm, but I really like his game and he should be a good one for Magic.
Vogel is Dutch for Bird.

I liked Hibberts rebounds and blocks the best, still showing that he's a force inside.

I'm just spitballing here, but he had his knee cleared out surgically via scope pretty late in the offseason and was still trying to work it into shape. While I do think that the need for him lessened later in the summer after being shocked to get Scola for so little, but I still think we're going to need AND want Copeland later this season. But if we end up not using him, that $3m will hurt when we're trying to re-sign Lance or Danny this offseason.

This is what will end up making him successful in the NBA in the long-haul. All-Star at some point? Probably not, but not outside the realm of possibilities. But he'll be one of those guys that carves out a 12-14 year career and surprising results.

I'm just guessing not having read the star or looked at pacers.com, but Ian had 5 fouls and the Magic's center had been thrown out so it made sense to me to let Scola and West play together as that is a combination that we'll want to get comfortable. Copeland will get his turns maybe even tonight.

I didn't actually get to watch the game but just judged off the stat line. I a glad he is ok.

Ironically, living in Indiana I still don't get their FSN channel, I get Cincinatti's.

Ah I didn't realise Copeland had an op, that makes sense.
