I'm saying that getting the picks in the trade and who was taken with the picks are two separate evaluations in my mind. Conversely, if somebody traded us a decent bench player for 3 future first round picks, but they turned around and drafted horribly, taking 3 players that amounted to nothing beyond failure, does that make the trade a smart one for us?

OK. So we knew we were getting Lamb since he was already drafted. Then Toronto was a STINKER last year. The only reason why it was not in the Top 10 was because the Grizz gave away Gay and hie awful contract. Plus Charlotte's 2nd which we all knew would be top 5 in that round. Which is a place where Sammy Loves to have a pick. Then an extra 1st which Sammy also Loves having for adding a sweetener to the deal.

I mean you can only trade w/ someone who is willing to deal. all last season we heard the Thunder wanted Thompson from GSW, the big man from Toronto, and the Wiz for Beal. But, none of those teams would bite.

While I understand what you're saying, don't we then need to extend that logic to say to a team that drafts well those picks have greater value? Inherently no pick has any value, but with a Sam presti a lotto pick is a valuable tool, with RC Buford any pick is valuable, with billy king.....well, with billy king you won't have draft picks.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.
