Just imagine how lopsided this game would have been without Ariza's fluky performance.

32 wins sounds about right, it's only a matter of time before Nene and Booker get injured and we're left with a starting front court of Gortat and Seraphin.

This team needs a bounce back performance against the Sixers in the worst way. A loss there and I could see this spinning out of control for a 1-7, or 2-6 type start real quick.

I agree with GR Jr not playing.. how would he have helped tonight? This wasn't the type of game where you empty your bench.

You're being overly pessimistic.

Is Beal going to shoot this poorly every game? Is Webster going to average one basket per game? No.

We played a team with a very strong frontcourt that destroyed us in the paint, our starters were asleep in the ifrst half sans Ariza, and we still had a chance to win the game.

You're making assumptions about why we lost that don't seem grounded in reality as far as I'm concerned.

For one, it wasn't the front court that killed us, it was the ease with which Billups and Bynum repeatedly sliced through our perimeter defense leaving Drummond, Monroe and Smith to feast on the corpses of our bigs.

Bynum and Billups scored 35 points on 21 shots compared to Wall and Beal with 37 points on 39 shots.

If not for Ariza's fluke night, this game wouldn't have been close, and despite our teams entire offseason focus being devoted to defense, we gave up 50% shooting against a team that has exactly one perimeter threat in the starting lineup.

I didn't have a huge problem with the rotation. Agree on our back court underperforming.

Yes, there were lapses in defense on penetrating guards. But by far our biggest problem was interior defense on their bigs, if you can't see that I don't know what game you were watching. Nene got absolutely owned by Monroe. Gortat played limited minutes and looked a bit lost at times. Booker was just too small.

None of the teams you listed have a frontcourt as good as the Pistons. Literally not a single one of them.

That schedule is not that scary, other than the obvious Ls (Miami, @OKC, @SA, @Pacers). We should be around .500 by the end of November, which isn't bad considering the amount of road games we have to play against good teams.

Cause and effect, you should take a minute, let those words sink in and then re-watch the game.

I will rewatch the game, tomorrow.

But at first impression, I really didn't come away from it thinking that Washington is one of the worst teams in the league or cannot win more than 32 games with their roster. And I don't think any unbiased, neutral observer would come to that conclusion either.

Defense. Defense. Defense.

Period. End of story.

Starting 5 was bad. Gortat should be starter and Nene goes to PF. Wall - Beal - Ariza - Nene - Gortat.

other than the bolded ones with asteriks most of those games look winnable especially the home games. I think they can beat OKC with no Westbrook.

I think no Vesely wasn't wise, either. A smarter play than so much Booker vs the Pistons would have been Gortat at C with Ariza and Vesely, over even Nene, since Nene was getting dominated on the glass by Monroe.

Let every player come in and add to the energy. Don't let Harrington get 4 shots and Webster only 1, since Beal was off at 6/18.

In addition to no GR Jr., this is a game when a guy like Shannon Brown could have helped if he were retained and another player waived or traded. (Singleton won't play, or IMO shouldn't with this roster.)

Good thing Maynor's a stud addition and they waived Kendall Marshall.
:(

It's just one game, but I feel like in midseason form. :)

When the Gortat/Okafor deal was made, I wasn't worried about the pick in part because I assumed both Shannon Brown and Kendall Marshall could and would help the Wizards backcourt. The Wizards IMO should have waived a player and kept at least one of Phoenix Gs. Maynor hasn't impressed me.

Did Webster or Ariza play SG? Beal is still just 20, and IMO shouldn't be carrying a heavy load on the road. I haven't watched a recorded video of the game, yet. Seems from the box score some minutes and shots issues might have come up,

CCJ, Ves doesn't have the bulk to bang with the big guys. Drummond, Smoove, and Monroe would have ate him him. Ves is what he is...Contract filler.

Sorry bro, there was no room for little kids out there. Drummond, Monroe & Smith are grown men. Vesely was right where he needed to be. In the protection of his warmups and glued to the bench.

And if you ever watched Kendall Marshall play you would know he doesn't belong on an NBA roster and definitely didn't belong in this game. Not saying Maynor does either but arguing about not keeping Marshall seems like a waste of breath. He's really not worth getting upset about.

It's obvious that Gortat needs to start. Booker hurts our defense.
