GAME DAY READING

Pacers - Pelicans Preview

NBA basketball is undergoing a drastic change in New Orleans.

No, it's not just the team's new nickname, the renovated arena or the retooled roster. Expectations have risen for a franchise that lost roughly 68 percent of its games over the last two years, and the Pelicans aren't hiding from them as they open their season at home Wednesday night against the Indiana Pacers.

"I believe we can make the playoffs," said 2012 No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis, who averaged 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds as a rookie. "We know it's going to be a lot of hard work, but we're prepared for it."

Pacers' Title Hopes Ride on Lance Stephenson Being Indiana's Difference-Maker

The Indiana Pacers have quite a few All-Star candidates, but it might be a relatively unheralded shooting guard who makes all the difference in the chase for the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

Paul George, David West and Roy Hibbert are clearly the best players who suit up in that yellow uniform, but that doesn't make them the difference-makers for the title hopes.

We know that George is going to be a superstar-caliber swingman who makes an impact on both ends. We already realize how tough West is to guard and score against. We're well aware of Hibbert's size and defensive impact.

What we don't understand is just how much Lance Stephenson brings to the table.

THAT'S NOT OUR COURT! :)

Also, Aminu starts for us. Evans comes off the bench as our 6th man.

I was wondering that - not sure why Aminu starts, but I suppose it is to lift the bench scoring and to lock down PG?

Anyway, lets hope for a solid performance from the bench tonight, this game will be considerably harder than it was in previous years I reckon.
Vogel is Dutch for Bird.

I am not feeling good about this game. West will have a handful to deal with tonight and PG has struggled on the road.

We're looking horrible tonight way to many turnovers. And were getting nothing from our bench

seems like the team started to getting their identity back the last 8 minutes... big game Saturday and possible first round matchup preview! every game counts this season, team with best back to back record between Chicago and Indy take the #1 seed; Miami is willing to trade seed for health!

we're starting to look like we can do what the elite teams used to do to us - turn it on in the last six minutes. I'll take 2-0 when it looks like we still haven't found our A game.

Agreed. I also like the fact that we were able to stay in the game with Hibbert in foul trouble. Obviously we made the run with Hibbert back in, but I feel last year we would have dug a deeper hole than we did when he was on the bench.

Also have to like how Paul has played. His scoring has been a lot smoother.

Far from their best. We were beating ourselves in the first half. No movement and too many jumpers. The first two shots were 3-point bombs (by Lance and Hill) and that was a early indication of how the game was going to go from the get-go. When the Pacers went inside and drove in, they had much success.

With just shooting too much and turnovers, it kept the Pelicans in the game the whole time.

It's going to take some time for the bench to gel and get going, we all knew this. Scola looks great though. He's not exactly the greatest defender in the world, got killed several times tonight and also Nicholson torched him last night, but on offense he's able to spread the ball out real well for us with his smooth shooting.

As i wrote in the GDT from last night, i think Vogel learned a good lesson with Solomon Hill. He didn't see the court at all tonight and i have to think it was because he looked so out of place. But, i was a bit suprised that we didn't see Copeland, essp early on with us in foul trouble and not being able to hit a shot.

Player of the game? Without a doubt: Paul George. Right?

Yes.

This was a more impressive win than game 1. NOP will be heard from this year if they can stay healthy. Not many teams who can boast three players as athletic and skilled as Davis, Gordon and Holiday.

Not even a question. He hit some huge shots (in addition to Hills 3 late in the game to seal it) and willed this team to a win after a horrid first half
