Sign him! With Melton on a one year deal, you could also consider it a try out for next year. You can also see how he does in a 4-3 system. If he does well and we could extend him, it gives us a little more scheme flexibility going into next season.

My only question is what kind of shape is he in? Would we have to wait three weeks to see him in football shape?

Cuz the bears have signed guys here and there and the never show up on the field. Some DT this offseason, i remember Gurode. Also cuz this guy wont be ready for 3-4 weeks.
