Don't forget the Lakers.
If Bledsoe doesn't like it here, its either because a) he wants to play in the spotlight in hollywood or a place where his plays will be repeatedly shown on Sportscenter or b) he wants to be the primary ball handler and doesn't like splitting the duty with Dragic.
If its the former, then the Lakers would be a good fit for him. He would fit into D'Antoni's system much better than Farmar or Blake.
This is if he doesn't like it here btw.

There are teams in the NBA who would give the max to players who aren't "absolutely phenomenal".
If Eric Gordon, Nicolas Batum can all get max contracts, then there's a good chance there are dumb enough teams out there.
If Knight doesn't work out, I expect MIL to be one of those teams. Maybe Orlando, LAL, among others.
But I bet Bledsoe's representatives were asking for the max or something close to it which is why McD passed and said "Let's wait and see what he does".
Either way, the max another team offers him is much less than the max we can offer him so if we end up matching a max contract next summer, we would still be saving money in comparison to giving him the max money he probably wants now.
Its different at point guard, as I made rather clear. Gordon, Batum, they are not point guards, and on top of that Batum did NOT get a max contract. And the the guy dumb enough to offer Eric Gordon the max is unemployed.
The wage for point guards around the league has been set lower than other positions UNLESS the player is elite. Rondo, Lawson, Tony Parker, Steph Curry, Jrue Holiday... all on NON max contracts. The only point guards in the league on max deals... Williams, Westbrook, Rose and Paul. Thats it. If Bledsoe plays well enough to get larger offers than what dudes like Rondo, Lawson and Holiday got on their 2nd deals then WONDERFUL, I will gladly deal with that issue.
As for the worry about Bledsoe wanting to be here... not only is it waaaaaay too soon to worry about, but it does not matter in the slightest. He will be a restricted free agent, should he test the market and ink a deal with another team the Suns can match and deal with any potential unhappiness later. I however am not worried about any potential unhappiness because that has not been an issue with this franchise, even under Sarver or the buffoon Blanks.
Yea but then you have guys like John Wall making the max. I do understand your point though about other guards making less money but remember that Rondo and Curry were both signed before they exploded into stars. Both deals are considered steals.
BTW if we want to give Bledsoe the max next year, are we no longer able to give him the rookie max?

Bledsoe is 23, he will be here for a long time IMO.

Re: Eric Bledsoe
He doesn`t have any reason not to be happy in PHX. He will get a ton of playing time here in a system which suits him perfectly so it`s a money thing, I believe. Ryan probably offered 8/9 mil per year to him but he wants to see how much he will get in a free agency (most probably more) after his first season with starting job.
Fair enough. If he explode as a Sun I`d be happy to match any offer he gets next summer.

I think Dragic is the better player right now. Will I say that at the end of the season? Maybe. Maybe not. However, I'm not a huge fan of paying for potential. It's how teams get in serious cap trouble and sign players to deals they regret for years. I think they are doing the smart thing here. We have all the leverage. Let him go prove it on the court.

Interesting to see Eric Bledsoe not sign that 7 mil per season offer. I personally think the Suns are better off not committing anything more to this career backup. That was a nice check offered by the team.
I think the number 1 pick next year should not be Andrew Wiggins and it 100pct without a doubt be point guard Andrew Harrison from Kentucky.
By the Way Rajon Rondo signed a 5 year slighlty over 50 million dollar deal. That is what 10 million a year gets you.
Steve Nash in his prime was 10-11 million. Eric Bledsoe please

How? We have a right to match any offer he gets.

He would have to except the QO, and wait another year for that to happen.

That would be a huge risk for him, leaving million of $ on table and risking injury for a whole season. I don`t believe in that scenario.

It's the only way he can outright "walk" or "bolt" from us as you pointed out being a RFA.

Re: Eric Bledsoe
The thing people need to remember is, it's not like we didn't try. He clearly wants a lot of money. So if he becomes a max player or player worth 12-13 mil per year, we at least know we never had a chance of getting him cheaper.
Bledsoe is at biggest risk. If he has a down year, he's going to get less than what we probably offered him.

Re: Eric Bledsoe
I'm not impressed. I think he'll be a solid player for most of his career, but he is at best a third option. I think the Suns are doing the right thing.

Re: Eric Bledsoe
Eric Bledsoe is a star, and he knows it. That is why there was no deal done. You all watch, Bledsoe will become a top 5 PG this season, and teams will drool over him, but he's not gonna leave. He won't even "feel" offers from other teams, it'll be a straight up deal with the Suns. He's here to stay.

Re: Eric Bledsoe
Honestly, PG is the most stacked position in the nba. If you go through the teams, I doubt you'd be able to find many that would spend big money on Bledsoe in free agency. There are probably 3 pgs in the top 7 or 8 in this upcoming draft (Exum, Smart and Harrison), and teams like Philly and Utah have their young pgs. Most playoff teams have good pgs.
Who could you see offering him a huge contract in the offseason? The Lakers? They will still have Nash under contract and Kobe will be expensive. Who else? Sacramento? Milwaukee? Boston? Do those teams have cap space? Boston won't if they keep Rondo, and if they trade him that will be ANOTHER team that has a pg for the future.
In the new NBA landscape, I have a hard time thinking of many teams that would think of offering $10MM+ a year for Bledsoe. I guess Toronto possibly? They are probably another candidate to get one in the draft along with Orlando.
I think if he wanted $10MM or more a season, it was probably wise to hold off.
Having two pgs this season might ultimately end up depressing his value (fewer assists) which is good for us.
Edit: OK, I went through all the teams and here are the teams that will have cap space that COULD go after him: Charlotte (but they have Kemba), Detroit (but they have Jennings), LAL, Milwaukee, Orlando, Sacramento, Toronto.
If Toronto goes after him, that would mean Lowry is on the market. Sacramento probably cannot afford him with the Cousins max contract kicking in, and they have Vazquez and Thomas. I don't know if LAL would want to spend THAT much on him, because Kobe will be expensive and they will need to address their frontcourt, either with or without Gasol. I imagine Orlando will address it in the draft. I don't know if Detroit would spend a ton of money on him with their current roster and knowing their guys on rookie contracts will be expensive soon.
In short, I think the two teams most likely to go after him are Milwaukee, but it would take them right up against the cap, and Orlando IF they end up getting Wiggins, Parker or Randle and don't get an elite pg in the draft. In that case, they would probably make a run at Bledsoe.
I'm guessing Bledsoe would prefer Phx to Milwaukee, and Milwaukee wouldn't be able to go near the max anyway, so the one team that we probably really have to watch out for his Orlando, and hope they end up with Smart, Exum or Harrison in the draft.
