Wizards release news of another Nene injury.

This new injury happened while Nene was getting ready to go out to dinner with his wife after a tough loss in Detroit. Wizards medical staff are looking into the issue to determine a recovery time. Seems after taking a massive constitutional, Nene went to wipe and instead of Charmins, which they were out of at the store, the wife grabbed a roll of generic tissue instead, which lead to Nene irritating the skin on the his large but sensitive sphincter.

The injury is not thought to be serious but we have been told, side effect are involuntary urge to scratch. Coach Wittman was reached for comment.

" We think Nene will be alright but we are monitoring the situation. It will be a game time decision. Hey, these things happen. You just have to tough it out and be a professional. That said, we have been working on limiting turnovers and if Nene can't control the desire to stretch, he might not have his hands ready to receive the ball or box out. In case that happens, the medical team is working with Wizards staff to prepare a pillowed section of the bench where he can sit and recover..and stretch, without affecting the team." said Coach Wittman

Ask to further comment of what the team can do to protect its other bigs, Coach Wittmen provided this, "Both Kevin and Ves being young are our biggest concerns.. We will have them evaluated now that we are aware of Nene's condition. Ves, he is an East Block kid. They are used to roughing it when it comes to things like this. Besides, I hear he likes to camp so we aren't to worried there. Kevin, we have to be careful. You know, he's French. And you have seen how at times he can play like a bit of a puss sometimes. That aside, we are looking forward to our season opener. We expect the fans to be loud so it should be a great atmosphere. We just hope Nene can control himself from scratching."

I wanted Nene traded the day after he got here. It was only a matter of time before we got to this point. I just wonder how many games will he actually suit up for this year?

Nene was a beast for like 6-8 games following the trade. His career with the Wizards has been an unmitigated disaster since. The low point for me was his decision to suit up for the olympics on a bum foot/leg, costing himself a good portion of the 2012/13 season in the process.

Then I figured, ok, last years disappointment may actually spark him to rest up, drop some weight to take some stress of his bum legs and come back with a vengeance.

Instead we're got Seraphin+, bitching and moaning about playing of position, and a nagging injury after the first season game that will stay with for the remainder of the season.

This team is ****.

I read Nene had pain from his calf down to his Achilles and a poster said he had that before and it could be tendonitis... or a partial Achilles tear.

Knowing our luck, that's what it is. In the first damn game.

Love Nene as a person but he is soft as hell! Wish he would suck it up and actually play. It seems he has no desire to win in the NBA and just wants to collect a check.

The sad part is Nene is one of the most talented big men in the NBA (Big hands, soft touch around the basket, high iq, great passer, decent defender) but his career best season isn't anything special. The reason he is an average rebounder is he lacks the fire in his belly to fight for every rebound. If you could put Dennis Rodmans heart in his chest Nene would be on the way to the hall of fame.

IF Nene has a partial Achilles tear, he shouldn't "suck it up" and play. That would lead to a complete Achilles tear, which would be the opposite of good.

And, if Nene does have an Achilles tear, I'd a) retract my snarky post (above) directed at queridiculo, with whom I'd be in complete agreement; and b) say I "told ya so" since the possibility of injury and decline were reasons why I opposed trading for the 30-year old Nene in the first place.

Suppose this happens. He'd retired, get his money, insurance would pay so Ted pocket would still be fat, but would the salary hit fall off the cap?

One way or another. Nene is on the short list of current worst NBA contracts.

If a player were to voluntarily retire, but was signed for say, 2 more seasons, does the club still pay his contract, do they not pay but still incur the cap hit, or does it just disappear?

If a player retires with guaranteed salary left on his contract, he still gets paid — but if he’s paid, he’s expected to report. The team & player usually work this out by agreeing to a buy-out — he’s paid less money, and doesn’t have to report. For example, Rasheed Wallace did this with Boston, and there are many other examples.

Players can also voluntarily, formally retire by filing paperwork with the league, in which case their contract is cancelled and the player doesn’t get paid. Jason Williams did this with the Clippers in 2008.

The other possibility is that the player is forced to retire for medical reasons. He is still owed his money (often paid by insurance), but after a waiting period the team is allowed to apply to have his salary taken off their cap.

If someone is a cap specialist, please correct me...but this would be the worst of all worlds for the Wiz.

The Wiz would not reclaim the cap hold for 1 year after his last game played. Meaning we would not be able to use his salary cap hold for a new player until Oct of next year...which effectively would take us out of getting value for his contract until the following off season.

I never want anyone to retire injured, but I got a "little" giddy about the player possibilities..until I did research.

The second one confuses me, but I'm thinking this points to 1 year.

Well, if he played in May, the one year anniversary will be next May. So one season.
