As the Washington Wizards prepare to begin the 2013-14 NBA regular season, many fans feel there are more questions than answers about this year’s team:
Can the team’s stars finally stay healthy enough to make a run at the playoffs?
Will any of the young big men show that they truly belong in the league?
How will recently acquired center Marcin Gortat impact the team’s fortunes this season (and will that impact be worth the protected first round pick the team gave up to get him)?
When can fans expect to see recent number three overall pick Otto Porter on the floor?
And no matter what happens this season, what is the plan for the future?
Of course, every other NBA team enters the season with at least some question marks of their own. Even the teams expected to contend for the championship have worst-case scenarios that they are trying to avoid. However, in the minds some Washington fans, the Wizards are different. To them, the questions already do have answers – and those answers demand the firing of current general manager Ernie Grunfeld. I have gone on record in other blogs and forums as defending many of Ernie’s moves over the years, but even I have to admit that this is a make or break season for him.
