Charlotte 2014 Picks Watch Thread

Post#1 » by Liver_Pooty » Sat Nov 2, 2013 2:37 am

Edit the title if you would like. I thought it would be alright to have a thread monitoring our future first round picks, granted they both might be rather mediocre.

Pistons are tied up with Memphis right now. Into OT we go.

I thought Detroit had that game in hand with like a 7 point lead in less than 3 minutes.

Josh Smith is in midseason form. Hoisting up 3s like a mad man,

better for us. That's more bricks.

also better for my fantasy team, as Andre Drummond will be gobbling up a LOT of offensive rebounds off said bricks.

Projections guys?

One or both picks coming this way?

I think we get both conveyed.

Detroit at about 13 and the Blazers at about 15.

I'm remaining optimistic, both of these teams are too good to tank imo and they are both potential 8 seeds, perfect with the protection on both picks.

I think we only go into the draft with one or at most two picks though.

If I had to warrant a guess, we're not getting the Portland pick this year. The Blazers are a decent team, but they play in an always tough Western Conference. I would imagine the protection salvages the Blazers in a year in which everybody wants a high pick.

Detroit is another conversation to be had. I want to say that we'll receive the Detroit pick this year but who knows. It really pains me to say this, but I really like the Pistons' bigs. Drummond and Monroe were put on this Earth to crash boards, and boy do they do it well. After doing a little bit of check writing this summer, Dumars may have lost a pick in a year where a lot of teams are looking to cash in on the next teenage savior to a franchise.

Prediction: Blazers pick - N/A, Portland keeps the pick
Pistons pick - 15
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

Blazers are looking rough so far from what I've seen. I wouldn't be surprised if they consider it a lost season and just tank it out if too many WC teams jump ahead of them.

I think we're getting a 12th pick from Detroit and a 13th-14th pick from Portland.

I think we will get both picks and our pick, Portland around 13, Detroit around 11 and our pick around 8

would like to trade Hendo for a pick also, some contender somewhere will trade a late 1st for him to be their 6th man, maybe OKC they need help

as for players i wanna draft i want a

Scoring SG that can shoots 3's maybe Gary Harris, great 3pt shooter solid defender and has intangibles

Rebounding/Defending PF with half decent offense maybe Montrezl Harrell gives 110% all the time, great rebounding and an athletic freak, raw on offense but tries very hard

and a 3pt specialist at SF maybe Doug McDermott, amazing shooter, good motor and good scoring instincts and solid team defender but struggles on 1v1 defense because he isn't very athletic

main Hornets roster for 2014

PG-Kemba-Sessions(FA)
SG-Harris-Henderson
SF-MKG-McDermott
PF-Zeller-McBob(PO)-Harrell
C-Al-Biz

thats 11 players

Im a big Gary Harris fan. I wanted him this past draft if he declared and we traded back.

I think we get the DET pick past the top 8 but not the POR pick.

I wouldn't pick Harris, McDermott, or Harrell in the top 10. Where do you think we pick? I also highly doubt Harris would start in front of Henderson immediately since 2014-15 will be a contract year for Hendo. I also don't think Taylor just disappears either. My god, we need to consolidate our talent a lot.

If we finish with the 4th or 5th pick, we get Julius Randle or Dante Exum. Say we get #13 from Detroit and #14 from Portland. If we use those two picks, and Henderson to move up to say #6 or #7 and take Selden/Harris or Randle/Parker/Embiid/Cauley-Stein.

Al/Biz
Zeller/Randle/McBob
MKG/Randle
Exum/Taylor
Kemba/Sessions
This would be an amazing scenario.

Let's say we get both DET (outside of top 8) and POR (outside of top 12).

What is the highest pick we could get if we packaged let's say 9 + 13 in this draft?

And what player is realistic if we package those picks as future picks (DET becomes top-1 protected and POR moves to 2 years away from being unprotected).

Detroit 15th- they want to make the playoffs in the east like 5 teams don't we are getting that pick.
Portland 13 or 14 the west in order I have sas, okc, lac, gs, hou, dal, min, LAL. Then it's either them or Memphis for 9th or 10th place.
I think we will have a top 5 pick. If we land wiggins I would get rid of mkg for a pf or center. I think we can move up with our 2 picks hopefully to draft James Young. He can flat out shoot.

He will have to work on his range to be an effective SG on the NBA level.

There isn't really a difference between the wing positions anymore. MKG is a swiss army knife in that he does a little bit of everything. He can also guard four positions and he's a very good rebounder for a wing; his only big weakness is scoring.

Basically he gives us everything you could want from the wing positions aside from shooting. Pair him with any 2 or 3 (doesn't matter which) that can shoot worth a damn and they'll fit like a glove. Unfortunately, Hendo doesn't do that.

The last thing I want to do is invite more Lamb drama, but a guy like him would not only be a good fit for Kemba, but for MKG as well. We just need someone who can stretch the floor for our slashers.

Pistons lost again tonight. I didn't watch, but according to the box score their spacing issues make ours seem like a Swedish massage.

They got Brandoned by Jennings. J-Smoove was also less than stellar from downtown (surprise).

They need to swing a trade for somebody like Calderon, just somebody that can get shots for people and hit threes. They don't any defense from their point with the 3 beasts roaming the paint.
