I think Shaq hyped it up after he left when really it was just a young guy who wanted the reins and an old guy who wanted a contract based on what he had done and could do for 1/3 of his new contract length.

Ill go with Mr. Jerry West' advice when putting together a team. You need that 1 superstar on your team..the superstar is whats going to win the chip for the team. The superstar will rally the troops. I.E. the superstar will bring the chemistry, buildaround him.

It's a lot of journeymen coming togetherness and embracing the biggest break of their NBA careers, getting to play for the Lakers.

D'Antoni seems to be making it easy for these guys. If you shoot a lot of threes and make a lot of threes, you'll get to play. Lakers are shooting above 40% from three. Farmar, Meeks, and Henry have done well in D'Antoni system. Everyone is on a trial run until Kobe comes back. Then D 'Antoni will decide what players he 'll stick with and who will get glued to the bench.

It sure helps that there's only one ego in the room. It makes things a lot easier. Also when there's a room full of young guys trying to make it in the NBA together...it's a collegiate atmosphere, probably something Kobe himself appreciates since he never went to college. I'm sure he embraces his role as the senior star quarterback. Let's just hope he stays clear of the cheerleaders.
