Pistons need shooting: Sign 3 point Shooting
3. Leandro Barbosa LATEST RUMORS
Unrestricted / Shooting Guard / 6-3 / Last team: Washington
5.2 ppg, 1.4 apg
His market value decreased as his quickness on the court. Averaged a career-low 5.2 ppg in Boston and got injured.
- See more at: http://hoopshype.com/free_agency/shooti ... hVEfr.dpuf
6. Daequan Cook LATEST RUMORS
Unrestricted / Shooting Guard / 6-5 / Last team: Chicago
2.8 ppg, 1.2 rpg
A one-trick pony. Doesn't bring much to the table aside from his three-point shooting. A 35.9 percent shooter from beyond the arc with an abyssal 36.9 percent from all over the court.
- See more at: http://hoopshype.com/free_agency/shooti ... hVEfr.dpuf
1. Stephen Jackson LATEST RUMORS
Unrestricted / Small Forward / 6-8 / Last team: San Antonio
6.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg
Things have come to an end badly for him with several NBA teams already. Couldn't even make it work in San Antonio. With diminishing skills, is he worth the headache?

3. Quentin Richardson LATEST RUMORS
Unrestricted / Small Forward / 6-6 / Last team: Toronto
5.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg
Very little left in the tank. Was surprising to see him picked up by the Knicks late last season.

Those are literally the bottom of the barrel in terms of talent and playing availability.

Re: Pistons need shooting: Sign 3 point Shooting
I'd pass on all of them. We don't need any of their veteran leadership, and considering all of them are useless outside of their outside shot, they're another liability on the court.
Detroit already has KCP, Datome and whatever is left of Billups. They need to get the former two more ingrained in the rotation. There's nothing those listed above bring that these three don't already have.

Re: Pistons need shooting: Sign 3 point Shooting
The Pistons are going to be involved in a big trade this year, I can feel it. They have got a lot of great pieces, but they are missing two critical things;
1.)A legit SG.
2.)A legit backup SF.
They get those things THIS year in a trade. Those expirings are going to be really tempting around the trade deadline this year. Mark my words.

I'm of the opinion that KCP is a legit SG. The back SF isn't as solid, I agree. Then again, we still haven't seen Datome play.

Solution: Keep KCP in the rotation, and give Datome a chance.

I think he's probably thinking along the lines of a legit right now SG. I'm a Caldwell-Pope fan and wouldn't like to see a trade that would bury him on the bench for years to come either but I wouldn't mind somebody brought in for the short term. Maybe a guy who can play SG or SF (not convinced KCP would fare well at SF) wouldn't be bad if they did bring in a legit guy who's would be here to stay a while. That would allow them to be really flexible with their lineups while still allowing KCP to develop and flourish.

Re: Pistons need shooting: Sign 3 point Shooting
The pistons already signed their bigtime 3 point shooter, and he just played his first game last night. He's been in the top 10 in makes for the last 2 years. The guy can make shots. The knock on him is shot selection, but don't confuse that with ability. If teams are going to crowd the paint, Jennings can make them pay from 3.
Bottom line is that we need an upgrade at starting 2 guard - either through player development, trade, or next years free agency. It doesn't do any good to sign fringe rotation players that can shoot because they aren't going to beat out our current guys for playing time.

^^ This. Assuming great play from the big-three up front, which seems like a safe bet viewed 3 games into the season (these guys are dominant), the key to this team most likely is Jennings. He has a serious chance of being a great player - it's pretty obvious he's got the talent to be one of the leagues better PG's - possibly an elite one, but predicting he'll get to that level is jumping the gun.
I was looking at some of the passes he made last night, and think that there are very few PG's who can make those passes (Rubio, Nash, Jason Kidd in the old days, Magic, Zeke and some others). Seriously, his passing talent is special.
What I hadn't realized is that he's been in the top 10 the past seasons in 3-pt makes. That would be huge if he improves his shot selection with us, and if he focuses on being a great QB for this team.
He's also way better on D than any point guard we've had here in a long time, at least in terms of his quick hands.

Re: Pistons need shooting: Sign 3 point Shooting
wait for Datome to come back properly from his little injuries. Once he is healthy and adapts to the Nba game, he is gonna contribute with 3 point shooting

If we need three point shooting, Datome and KCP need to prove they deserve more minutes. In Datome, the situation is just getting on the court. I'm not cutting anyone at this time.

I'd do Jerebko for Jimmer and Outlaw's 2 yrs to make it work.
As long as he's on the floor with Dre at all times, we can get 20 mins at the 2 from him.

Re: Pistons need shooting: Sign 3 point Shooting
We have 3 point shooting, they just had not been put in position to succeed.
Jennings was out all preseason.
KCP has been benched in favor of 4 point guard vets, no chance to get in the flow. Cheeks has thrown him in as a last resort after his all-pg guard lineup fails predictably.
Datome has just started playing after being injured.
Jennings is starting to produce like hes able to.
Cheeks needs to start KCP to help with defense against shooting guards and so he can get comfortable.
Datome will start hitting them as he gets comfortable.

You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

I'm really not familiar with Mitchell. If he can gaurd SF's and hit the 3 I think the Knicks would be interested.
I know he is strong enough to gaurd PF's and his rebounding is excellent.
if not for Shump than maybe for Tim Hardaway Jr.

Nope. Tony Mitchell has star potential. Athleticism and a jumpshot. He's just stuck behind Jerebko and a "veteran coach" that would rather Play 4 point guards in front of a real SG because KCP is a rookie. KCP has just as much potential if not more than Shumpert
