If EG doesn't sign Blatche to an extension only to use the amnesty on him it would still be available to use on Nene even though he was acquired via trade...Am I correct?

A. Harrington 12:18min 0-6 0-3 0-0 -11 0 0 0rbs 1 2 0 0 0 0 0pts

Is he still better than Jan, Randy? Not worth to try something different?

This is shaping up beautifully. I hope it continues. This is the only way EG is canned.

+10

Two losses in winnable games, and clowned by Miami. So far, definitely doesn't smell like a playoff team. Very good news. 1 more year of suck should be just the weapon necessary to pulverize all chance of another EG era to go with the first disastrous one.

btw, I have nothing to base this on beyond intuition, but I don't believe GRJR is in the doghouse, I think he's just getting the 2nd round draftee treatment. He'll get his run eventually but check the minutes any 2nd rounder gets, especially early: negligible. It's just our bad luck that our staff and F.O. doesn't realize he's probably the seventh or eighth best player on the playable roster right now.

Our next 5:

@Philly
Brooklyn
@OKC
@Dallas
@San Antonio

Unless we take down an undefeated Philly team on the road, this team is starting out 0-8 in all likelihood. Hey, at least that pick we traded is top 12 protected :P

On Gortat, he's not even remotely as active as Emaka on defense. Not the rim protector, not as agile, and not as good a rebounder. Offensively, he's got better touch around th basket, but he's kinda clumsy with the ball at times and isn't aggressive in post-up situations.

Meanwhile, Webster finishes with 13-7-4 with 2 steals and no turnovers. Randy should be starting him over Ariza next game. Ariza shooting is too unreliable to have him out there with the starters.

We can beat Brooklyn too. Not saying we will, but it's certainly possible.

On balance, I'd say Ariza is still one of the brighter spots on the team. I like Webster too. The obvious solution is to start them both.

Dallas isn't a world beater either. We may be able to make it to 2-6!
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

I'd go for that. Go to a smaller lineup with Ariza at the 4 next to Gortat. At least the spacing will be a bit better on offense. Bottom line is, Webster needs to be inserted into the starting line-up and either one of Booker or Ariza needs to be benched.

On Gortat, it is clear that he is not as good defensively as Oakafor, but I am not down on him as others may be. I think our poor defense the first 3 games has been more on our guards failing to contain dribble penetration and Booker and Harrington manning the 4 spot than Gortat. I also think Gortat will improve once he understands are schemes better and develops some chemistry with the players.

I agree on Webster. I think putting another reliable shooter on the floor will open up things a little more for Beal. I think a lot of teams will be content to let Ariza hoist up 3 pointers...not sure they would do the same with Webster.

Until Nene is back, I would definitely prefer Ariza at the 4th spot than Booker.

Okafor in the paint masked somewhat the dribble penetration issues last year. Replacing him with Gortat (who's had virtually no time to get to know his new team) has really exposed just how much Okafor contributed to the team's vast improvement on D last year.

Tank it. Fire EG. Get something of value for Ariza and Gortat and pick high. With some cap space, a new GM and a high pick we can rebuild within two years.

Our opponents have no back to backers, but we have one. The odds suggest we'll win one we don't think we'll win, but 0-8 or 1-7 is hard to come back from. 74 games left to play with and you need to go about 41-33 in them. Hard to see that happening.

I think Brooklyn is a good team having a slow time gelling. I think we'll have trouble matching up with their size.

Also we're playing flat out bad basketball, so any team is going to give us trouble. We're much worse than the sum of our parts right now. Yet again, we came into the season poorly prepared.

Will this be the season that finally gets EG canned?
