NBA related offtopic

Post#1 » by Beetlejuice » Wed Nov 6, 2013 12:11 pm

Since the NBA stats went through a facelift, i find their site becoming more and more unusable for stats. I m wondering does anybody know great and basic stats site that gets updated quickly.

I just use ESPN now. I also no longer use NBA, they need to change those stats ASAP.

I also agree with it. Using nba.com stats became horrible thing.

First page PTS REBS AST and PIE%(who needs that?)
and why the hell on the first page of a player i need to load every time those highlights.. so annoying.
Then stats profile nearly unnecessary thing.

And the main thing which should be nice and clean STATS is awful, with this scrool under creates so much chaos.

They made a huge step back imo, now using espn, also any other good ones?

Yeah, I mostly use espn. Just go here http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics and on the right you can click on Hollinger statistics if you want to see PER or team efficiency. basketball-reference is also good, as gaspar mentioned. I use that more for older stats.

Yea I hate it too cause I used to love NBA.com for stats.

Why do people try to fix things that are not broken?

Thank you , i will use both, depending on circumstances.

ESPN- is more readable, but has that awful player profile page which does want to load few seconds when i click on a name. So it requires more clicks and feels slow, better than NBA by a mile though.

Basketball reference ... "wall of text feeling, so its hard to quickly find what i need. Imagine searching for 3 word phrase on a unformatted (A4 font size 10) page . That design is beyond horrible. But it requires less clicks for complete stats page so its still a bit easier, I find it "noobish" that per game stats are behind total stats, what im going to to with "he made 227 baskets in 2012".

They really should think about power users when they create those sites.

How can i find individual stats quickly for not so known players?

I do like their design.

Hoopsstats is a nice site that has a lot of information other sites don't have like:

Team stats:
http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fa ... /1/eff/1-1

(If you filter by backcourts we are ranked the 3rd best backcourt in the league 8-) )

(feel free to explore the site on your own its really easy to navigate but I will provide other links just incase)

Player page:
http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fa ... s/14/1/eff

Suns profile:
http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fa ... file/14/24

(The information here is REALLY cool. Click on rankings, tips, or by quarter for very interesting stats :D )
-You can do tips and rankings for individual players as well

Also what I really like is it shows who won and lost a matchup for players based on efficiency so for example here is Bledsoe:
http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fa ... /14/24/337
He has won 3 out of 5 matchups

Theres just lots of great information on this site and its really easy to navigate and so many filterable options that provide more depth and understanding to teams and players.

I used to use yahoo to follow live box scores while at work with a slow connection, but since their livescore layout has gone to crap this year I use espn instead now

I use basketballreference normally. It's a no-nonsense site for stats and advanced stats.

Not live but if that's what you're after.

Wow a lot of entertaining info there, too bad their career page is awful and no live feed i think. Definitely will use it since there are a lot of snippets to be exited about.

Really enjoying ESPN live boxscore watching, way better than NBA which is so over scripted it lags and annoys the hell out of me.

Return to Phoenix Suns
