Re: Nene
When the trade happened i was tentatively in favor of it. To me the worst case scenario would be resigning McGee. Trading for Nene eliminated that as a possibility. I definitely had reservations about the size of Nene's contract though.
Some argued that it would be better just to let McGee walk. I didn't argue the point since i felt there was a reasonable chance they were correct. Now it is looking more and more like that would have been the right move.
Nene has definitely been a disappointment so far and it seems unlikely that will change.

I didn't mind the Nene move because I thought we would buy out Rashard, amnesty Blatche, and do something worthwhile with the $12M in cap room we would have had. I figured a respectable veteran like Nene plus $12M in cap room was better than having $25M in cap room in a year (2013) when there weren't a lot of top tier free agents.
I also didn't expect Nene to play in the Olympics on his ailing foot. I was thinking we could get 65 games a year out of Nene, not 40.

Re: Nene
It's truly odd how much of an impact Nene makes when he actually plays, and how little it shows up in the stat sheet. He's an immediate physical presence that stops us from getting bullied when he goes in and it's like the collective IQ of his lineup skyrockets the moment he steps foot on the floor.
He's a tantalizing player. You think about what might be when he's out there. And then he gets hurt and disappears for a third of the season.

Re: Nene
Nene looks so much better when he's doing the little things like setting screens and looking to be the inside facilitator for the team instead of forcing his offense. When he gets jump shot happy or starts pounding it down low are offense grinds to a stop. Nene's best traits are his mental makeup, smart play, and intangibles, he needs to stick to them.

He is the post presence needed to run an inside out game that opens it up for all the shooters of which we have plenty. Well, spot up shooters. Thats the key to getting this offense working. Nene is air traffic control with the ball in is hands in the post.
Its a SA style offense. Nene is our version of a TD
What they are really missing is a Manu type and Wall having a little more carving to his game. But Wall can get there. He is still young. Parker got to get groomed on a winning team which made his maturation process easier.
With Beal, Wall and Kevin, they game still hasn't slowed down enough. Experience and continuing to develop their skills will help with that.

Suppose this happens. He'd retired, get his money, insurance would pay so Ted pocket would still be fat, but would the salary hit fall off the cap?
One way or another. Nene is on the short list of current worst NBA contracts.
1. Joe Johnson
2. Nene (he's second because his deal is 3 years)
3. Amare
4. Andrei Bargnani
Who am I missing?
Gerald Wallace
Tyreke Evans
Al Jefferson
Javale McGee
Danilo Gallinari
Jeremy Lin (Toxic pill next year)
Eric Gordon
Kendrick Perkins
Marcus Thornton
Rudy Gay
Landry Fields

Re: Nene
How about Nene. Back to back 24 and 20 pts games and good shooting percent and at least one block in each.
And he actually went 6 for 6 from the line tonight and hit 2 down the stretch.
We beat on him a lot so props where they are do. He and Gortat still have room to get better as well.
Really like what Ves is bringing to compliment those two. Neither of which is a leaper.

Thank you. Nene shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as any of these guys except perhaps Jefferson, Gordon and Lin. He's way better than everybody else mentioned. He's arguably the best player on our team right now. He leads the team in PER and is second in points/36.

I agree that now would be a good time to "sell high" on him. My first target would be to pry the Dallas pick from OKC. It is top ten protected until 2018, but at that point it looks like it loses all protection. That is hopefully past the Wizards rebuilding window, but it could be helpful in acquiring young talent down the road.
The second target would be a deal for Asik. It probably helps the tank short term and is a better long term fit than Gortat.
I might also see if DeAndre Jordan was available from the Clippers, but that would probably come down to if Nene was willing to play Center to join a better team.

Re: Nene
I'd love DeAndre Jordan on this squad, but I don't see the Clippers going for that move since Rivers is pretty much counting on him to be their defensive anchor.

Jeremy Lin, ouch!!! He had a small stretch of above good games and BAMM. Huge contract. However, in Lin's case the owner has a huge following in China for merchandising sales to offset the salary.

John Wall had a few good games last year. Let's hope our Future max player lives up to his contract. Maybe, Ted can grow Wall's overseas brand to offer supplemental income. I doubt it will ever be the size of Lin's volume. However, I have been wrong before.
For the record, I was a huge Gilbert fan and Wall may not be meeting my expectations.

Re: Nene
In fairness to Lin he has gotten off to a good start this year. He still turns it over too much but is averaging 16 ppg shooting 51% from the field, 41% from 3.
