P.J. Tucker
I haven't watched very many games thus far, but I just picked up P.J. Tucker in a 14 league, fantasy format. He's providing decent 3's and steals and rebounds
But how is he looking in real life? Horny is giving him 36 minutes a game, has he solidified himself as a starter?
Is a Raja Bell-lite who boards hard a good comparison?

A lot of that was in one game. I picked him up after that and later dropped him in my 14 team league. He is kind of sharing time and minutes with Gerald Green, but with Dragic out they may both play together some tonight.
I don't think he will consistently score a lot, but he should always get some steals and rebounds and maybe a three or two.

He is a restricted FA, so we have to think about how much money we want to invest in him.
I would match any offer around 12M/3 years, I think he deserves that money and he will be in his prime.

Re: P.J. Tucker
I have Tucker on my team for fantasy right now. I think he was my 9th or 10th pick. Anyway, his ceiling is pretty much how he finished last year which was 14 pts and a little of everything else (which is 5th round value). But it looks like he's going to be in a timeshare with Green so taper your expectations. He's still worth owning according to BBM (one of the best sites to use for rankings) in a 14 team league (right now he's 7th round value), because he probably won't ruin your %s and will still rack a little for each category.
What does this mean? Ideally you just keep him and only play him when you need to fill a slot.

Re: P.J. Tucker
PJ Tucker is a good, smart role player with decent athleticism. And he even shows improved jumper so far in the season.
I`d keep him on a reasonable deal (3 years/8 mil) for a couple of years more.

Nope. People are blinded by his "scrappyness" and don't pay attention to all the errors he makes in games. People also think he is a good defender, when he clearly isn't quick enough and plays too high to only get beaten leaving someone to help and have their player get involved in the offense. I would be happy for him to play 15 minutes a game. Not starters minutes.

He does make mistakes on offense, good for about two dumb tunovers a game, stuff like not knowing where his feet are along the baseline. However, you take him off the team and I bet we are giving up about 5-10 more points per game right now. He defense is very very good and not at all overrated, just listen to how much opposing fans bitch about him during games. He disrupts a ton of plays by now allowing guys to put the ball on the court when they're around him. Its more than just scrappy, the guy is an extremely talented defender.
IF the Suns trade him this season (and given his contract status its a real possibility), watch afterwards, our defense will go off the rails, and not just because of how good he is on that end, but because of how awful the guys backing him up are on D.

I agree he should be nothing more than a role player

But what forward on the Suns shouldnt be a role player? Relative to the rest of the forwards Tucker is a standout. No one is claiming this guy is a star and I think even his staunchest supporters agree he would be a role player on most playoff squads. However on THIS team he has clearly been an important part of the early success.

I'm not a fan at all either to be honest.
He has his spot on an nba roster but it's as the 8th player playing no more than 15mpg IMO.

Who says otherwise?
Tucker is a very good role player, imo, for 15-20 min per game play but I don`t mind him starting for now until we find a stud small forward. Then he can be a very nice 8th player.

Who says otherwise? A number of people on here. People sprouting off about Tucker's D this and that blah blah blah.
I don't care for the fact that we aren't all that good and don't have a lot of depth yada yada yada. He should be playing 15-20 mins per game and that's it. Take today's game for example, he played the least amount of minutes he has all season and it was arguably his best game so far.

Losing interest in Tucker too but his defense is amazing. Reminds me a lot of Grant Hill's D

About time....Somebody who sees Tucker as I do. A role player that is hyped up and in the way of other players growth potential. I like him too, but not at the expense of seeing time taken away from Archie and Green. Tucker is not a guy that wee need on this team. I know a lot of our players are role players but they have room for growth, PJ on the other hand should not be starting.

Re: P.J. Tucker
PJ Tucker is an interesting topic for debate, I'm glad we have differing perspectives amongst us...
He's one of those "feel-good" stories with his history of trying to get in the league repeatedly and after an earier benchwarming season in Toronto, he caught his break with us and solidified himself as a valuable role player in the NBA.
PJ serves sort of a Thabo Sefolosha role for us, but Thabo clearly has the better defensive awareness and basketball IQ in general. The two contribute to team performance more than stats (although their stats aren't bad, and things like on court/off court statistics are impressive).
Depending what team you're looking at, a player like that should be getting between 10 and 25 minutes a game. I think on PHX, he should definitely be getting more like 15. We can give some of his current minutes to our guys with higher potential and let them develop. What's most important is how we use PJ. He can be used when defense is either critical or lacking and things need to settle down, especially - and that doesn't require a ton of minutes.

Re: P.J. Tucker
I don't think Tucker is getting in the way of Goodwin developing.
Goodwin is one of the youngest players in the league. This first year is basically just learning to swim, it's not "sink or swim" situation, but really one of developing him slowly, in practice, in the NBA lifestyle, teaching him the right mechanics, mindset, making him hungry.
If anything, it shows Goodwin the importance of defense and hustle, not just in practice, but in Horny giving a guy like P.J. Tucker minutes. Let Goodwin earn his spot, not get fed minutes and a sense of entitlement like Tyreke Evans was.
Extend Tucker, he seems like a good dude, with solid defense. Guys like him are pretty common on contenders, I see him as a James Posey type of player. With the right contract, his value will be well worth it to stick 20 minutes on the Hardens/Klay Thompsons/Evan Turners of the league.

I hear a lot of people who love him and want him given more minutes etc
On a side note - a role player who has 3000 pairs of shoes is destined to be one of those "broke" athletes we hear about in 10 years.
