Free this Man SPO!
Mike came in and knocked down 2 quick 3's last night. The man is what we need in a stretch 4. Shard didnt have a bad game, but I like MIke over him for future purposes. Mike still has room to grow, Shard not so much.
It was just good to see him on the court again playing a meaningful game in a Heat uni. A bit of nostalgia.

YES! Beas should see the floor before Lewis, Warden.

Re: Free Beasley!
After hearing Ron Rothstein talking in last night halftime interview i got the sense that not playing Beasley is not a pure basketball decision at this stage.
I believe the coaching staff knows that at this point in time, year 2013, Michael is a better player then Lewis and Haslem. I can't remember the exact wording he used but i got the sense that the coaching staff is trying to make sure Baes stays hungry, that he keeps working hard in practices and dont lose focus on things he needs to improve on - mainly defense. I think it's more of long term psychology decision then a basketball one.
Not sure how smart it is, but for now i guess it's tolerable.
It might send the wrong message to make him a starter so soon, but i expect Spo to ADJUST and start giving Beasley more of UD's minutes as time goes by.

Yep, this is about thinking big picture. Posters complain about the team not developing players, but this is often enough what developing a player looks like. Beasley has never learned what it means to be apart of a team like this, and how to be a role player on it, which at the end of the day is what he will be for the foreseeable future. The staff is making a lot of decisions right now with a timeline beyond this next game, this next month, or even with guys like Beas and Oden, beyond this next year.

Re: Free Beasley!
Is too obvious that this is a lesson being taught to Beasley. They are just letting him know that this is a team and there are rules, Everyone knows he is better than Lewis but he needs to prove he can stay focus. The Good thing is that Beasley is well aware of what's going on.
In My eyes he is just grounded like a little kid. He cannot play until he is 100% mentally ready.

Re: Free Beasley!
To be honest I'm not 100% convinced he's better than Lewis right now. Lewis has actually been playing well, and he's must more instinctual in our offense and defense than Beas (though that's familiarity/regularity as much as anything else). That being said, it's hard to imagine Beasley being worse than Haslem has been.

Re: Free Beasley!
beasley will only see the floor if someone is out. i dont see him being apart of the rotation. as nice is his 3min looked last night he is still an inefficient blackhole on offense and a bad defender. Still has a lot of work to do but last night was encouraging.
like i said last night, dont let him get comfortable.

I agree with the sentiment but not with the bolded.
There's no reason a well adjusted, focused Beasley can't be a big minutes 6th man off the bench or even a starter next to Bosh. It's not like Haslem is doing well or getting younger and Battier is limited as well, both in skillset and in physical durability at his age.
Beas has the raw talent to be decent starter in this league, and he has the physical tools too. He lacked the focus and defense for most of his career, but that's what he's working on right now with the staff. I believe he can improve enough on those areas and be more then a role player for us.
Also disagree about the timetable you mentioned, You can't daydream about next year, in our situation, it doesn't make sense :
1) Beasley and Oden are free agents next year. We can't invest in them all year, not enjoy any of the fruits and then watch them go contribute for another team. We're not a farm team.
2) We're in a win now mode. They also have long term potential - yes, but they're needed this year in order to maximize our immediate goal - Win the ship this year.
We can't sleepwalk on them, We need to integrate them to rotation before the playoffs.

Last night's performance was encouraging, but I don't see Beasley getting consistent minutes until a little later in the season. Post-ASB, perhaps?

I think you and I just diverge on what "role player" means because what you described is basically what I had in mind

As for the timetable, of course you want them to contribute this year, but they're both developmental players, and it's a balance. This is a make-or-break year for both of their careers, really. If you get it right you could re-sign them and they both become staples of the team for the next few years. If you do it wrong neither of them is on an NBA roster at the end of the season. It's not about daydreaming, it's about being realistic about where they are in their careers and what they need. We're trying to make both of them into a legit, every game player, that's a long horizon. That doesn't mean you don't want production from them this year, but it's a balance.

Re: Free Beasley!
Since Beasley has came back, I started following his Instagram. I have to admitt I was waiting to see something boneheaded by now, But he has done well. Alot of times with kids and pics with the team. He is fully engaged and ready to be a teammate

Re: Free Beasley!
I think that if UD continues to stink it up, we'll see Beasley at that stretch PF position. We might even see this in the playoffs... but Beasley's defense isn't that great. But it's an extra body and it would take some stress off of Shane in the future.
Lewis is playing well and is getting play time, but this happened last year. He then only came during garbage time and a month before the playoffs because the Heat streak broke and everyone was taking a rest at some point, so he was just filling in for players.
This team can be hard to predict when it comes to who is in the rotation. One minute they get a significant amount of playing time, then they are buried on the bench and never seen again. This same team benched Miller for a long time then unleashed him in the playoffs. This same team played Bibby and Arroyo over Mario lol.
Someone mentioned it but it makes sense they are developing Beasley and not just spoon feeding him. He has to earn a spot on the rotation, and so far Lewis is playing well.
I know people are frustrated to see him buried on the bench, Beasley's scoring can be really dynamic for us but scoring right now isn't even the issue. It's defense. This team just has so much depth that there isn't a dire need for Beas.

Re: Free Beasley!
Haslem is just a waste of a player on the court no presence on offense. I would keep Haslem as a starter and let Beas develop and then insert him in or we shake up things like trade Joel and get a F or a guard.

The Heat want this kid to be a hungry basketball player and over time, learn (through practice and games) how to be an effective player on this team. This video shows you its the little things that make the difference with Beasley. At the very beginning of the video Beasley is stretching his leg while there action on the court. Its not necessary and show immaturity. Not a big deal, but still counts against him.

Hilarious people still hold onto hope that he will amount to something useful. Wouldn't want him on the floor for any meaningful games/possessions. Ever.

Pat Riley and the rest of the team/coaching staff still believe in Beasley, and that's good enough for me.
In Pat we trust.

Re: Free Beasley!
I think Spo, Lebron, and Wade can rebuild Beasley and make him into the player he was supposed to be. It's not too late. Plus it seems like he's been broken down enough by failure on and off the court, that he's willing to be shaped now. If he can learn to do the little things, and then you add that to his obvious scoring abilities--then you're not just talking about a good player on a bad team kind of guy.
If they can build Beasley into Haslem with an offensive game...omg this team would be even more unbeatable.
