John Wall is the best PG in the East right now
If Rose gets back to form that could change, and Kyrie is always going to be on his heels but...
As of right now, he's the best.
Thoughts?

I think it's safe to say. I haven't noticed another PG in the East as good as Wall right now.

4 games, let's give it a month, or maybe a season.

If there is a better one, I can't think of who it is. Before last night
he was averaging 19 and 9. Yes I know those are the old fashioned
unsophisticated stats. But we know or should know those are the
stats that often lead to AS game appearances.

Kyrie seems to have improved his overall PG skills but I still like Wall's game better. Its going to be so much fun watching those Wiz-Cavs backcourt matchups. Thats must see tv

True, but if you take it back to last year when he seemed to finally "figure it out" and take his game to the next level, he hasn't really skipped a beat since, and that solid play has transitioned into this season.
It's encouraging that he hasn't taken a step back.

I am not concerned with how he stacks up with Kyrie or Rose. I just want to see him play up to his abilities.
If he can become an average 3 point shooter and cut down on his turnovers then he could be a scary player. So far he is 8-19 from 3 after 4 games. He made only 12 threes last season and only 3 the year before that.

As of right now? Yes. By the all-star break? Probably. For the season? He's the frontrunner. Come next year? Rose and Rondo will probably take 1a 1b honors back.

I think Rondo is in the rearview for a number of reasons, but yea, Rose is getting it back. I think one thing that's been proven with his absence is that he's barely a PG right now though. The teams offense flowed much the same way with or without Rose when he was out last year. Thibs is hugely responsible for much of the Bulls' success. That's not to take anything away from Rose, he's a tier above Wall offensively, but I actually don't think the defensive gap is significant and I think Wall is the far superior pure PG talent.
I would just be hyped if Wall got to start the all-star game this year. It'd mean so much to the city.

Can't think of many guys who have more potential than Wall. He's been good through 4 games. In the East, these PGs are higher rated in today's installment of Small Sample Size Theater: Chalmers, MCW, Jeff Teague. Wall's off to a good start, though.

I get what youre saying in that its a small sample so it means nothing and that even average players can look better than great players in 4 games but there is no way that any of those guys you named have played better than Wall thus far

I dunno. I always thought Rondo was a bit overrated and benefited a great deal from playing alongside a bunch of smart veterans who knew how to score and stretch the floor. His sub-13 PPG average isn't going to be something one can so easily overlook when he is no longer playing alongside Pierce and Garnett.
I don't know what happened to Rose. Maybe he's just rusty, but maybe he has lost something fundamental, either mental or physical, that may hold him back from being the superstar he once was. He looks terrible right now. And it's hard to blame health. He has had forever to heal from the ACL injury.

Rondo won't do jack without the HOF-ers around him. Rose will ball out again, but probably won't return to form for another year if he does at all. He looks a lot like RG3 looked early in the year.
Wall's main competition is Irving, but I think Wall is the better all around PG.

Re: John Wall is the best PG in the East right now
What about Deron Williams? His scoring is a down this year but probably because the Nets are sharing the ball with a much deeper team- he's averaging 11.5 assists per game.
I hope Rose's health turns out to be good since the Bulls are potentially one of the few teams that could beat Miami but their chances look even shakier. Still too early to write off Rose, he does have some explosiveness getting to the rim- his shots aren't falling right now. At least against Indiana, he got to 17 points on 40% shooting as opposed to shooting under 30%.
Guess we'll have to find out how good Rondo is without Pierce and Garnett.

Re: John Wall is the best PG in the East right now
Two seasons ago, Wall went 3-42 for the season from three-point range. Yesterday, against Philadelphia, John Wall hit 5 threes in one game.
I'm happy with his play. Before the first Philly game I posted that Michael Carter-Williams may already be better than John Wall. I think he's potentially the superstar PG of the league, but right now, he's really competitive in all areas except percentage shooting. Wall's picked up in that area. With range that he has now, Wall is pretty complete.
I think MCW will be the main competition for Wall because he's athletic defensively. Nivek mentioned Jeff Teague, whose also another good, young PG. I also like Eric Bledsoe, but I think Wall is slightly better than Bledsoe.

If Wall brings that kind of shooting, he'll not only be one of the best point guards in the game but one of the best players in the game. I still need to see a larger sample size though to believe that Wall has become a better shooter. I'm encouraged that Wall is taking more 3s, I prefer Wall to take that shot more than his patented 17 foot jumper.

I know this isn't a complete apples to apples comparison, but there are similarities between Rose and Arenas which can't be ignored. When Arenas returned from his injury it became clear after a while that he lost whatever it was that made him uber special. Arenas was still a good player when he initially returned, and had it not been for Gun-gate he'd be in the league right now. He had a PER of 18.7 with Washington when he returned in 2009.
I know Bulls fans think Rose will just come back and be 2011 Rose all over again, but there is more than a remote chance that just won't happen. What if he comes back at 90% Rose? That's still awesome, but not ALL-NBA level play in my book.

I forgot about DWilliams. We'll get to test this theory of Wall's supremacy
Friday night.

Derrick Rose will be fine. It's nothing like Arenas. Have you watched Rose play this year? He looks fantastic athletically, he's just rusty as heck. Just like Wall did to start last year. Wall was terrible and took a month before the rust really wore off. Rose will be great this season, it's only a matter of time.

Russell Westbrook really shook the rust off in a hurry. I forgot about him. He's up there somewhere behind Chris Paul for best PG.
