Re: Trade Landscape/Trade Ideas
C'mon guys. All we have heard in almost every thread since the trade was how Brooklyn was going to be a juggernaut and their depth would carrying them through.
Personally, as I have stated, I think Arambone is closer to the truth than the majority of this board but that is for another topic, another thread.
The most a draft pick can sell for is $3M. In the scenario I laid out, Atlanta is paying Lee's third year ($5.675M) and an extra $225K this season (which, allows Boston further wiggle room) in exchange for a "worthless late pick".
Not to mention, if he returns to health, Williams is the best player in this deal.

Re: Trade Landscape/Trade Ideas
This might be the worst trade I've ever suggested:
GSW in: Faried, Bass, C. Lee
Out: David Lee
NYK in: David Lee, J. McGee, M. Brooks
Out: Shumpert, Amare Stoudamire swap of 2015 pick to BOS
Bos in: Amare Stoudamire, Evan Fournier, draft pick swap from NYK
Out: Humphries, B. Bass, M. Brooks, C. Lee
Denver In: Shumpert, Humphries
Out: J. McGee, Faried, E. Fournier
I don't know that much about Fournier, he'd have to be a long-term building block to make taking on that money worth it. He shot really well last year as a twenty year old. Also the possibility of jumping the Clips pick up 10 spots or so.
Denver improves their D and saves long term money, NY gets their front court help, GSW saves money long term and gets a good young player for an older overpaid one. Oh well, points for originality, maybe.

Re: Trade Landscape/Trade Ideas
This draft looks to have terrific depth. A late first isn't worhtless and this draft could be similar to 08 where in the 20-40 range tehre were real players like Ibaka, George Hill, Ryan Anderson, Pekovic, Asik, Batum and so forth. Giving a late first a strong percieved value.
And there is also the possibility that Brooklyn falters in the record and Atlanta could falter too.
I'd be less inclined to trade a pick until it's more clear exactly where it might land. I could entirely foresee both the Hawks and the Nets picks falling 16-24 and I'd rather have four years of a prospect on a rookie deal than Williams. However at some point dumping Courtney Lee may take first position in the analysis.
Parenthetically, Lee's acquisition was a terrible move, thanks Doc.

What's the word on Olynyk? Is he untouchable?

Nobody is untouchable. But Boston liked him well enough to trade into the lottery to get him and his value has only gone up from there.

Draft picks are far from worthless they are even more valuable now than under the old CBA. They allow a team some cost certainty in their payroll even if they don't yield star talent. Pissing them away in an attempt to save money can be foolish not only from a talent perspective but also from a financial one.
In essence blowing first round picks like Ainge has done recently has lead to him having to pay the type of money he has given to Brandon Bass and Courtney Lee. He has flamed out on 3 first round picks over the last 5 years, the issue isn't that you don't get all stars at those spots it is that you don't even have serviceable players on rookie contracts on your roster.
That said I really like Louis Williams game so I the idea of trading for him but dealing a pick in this upcoming draft is just not an option the hype on this thing is outrageous.

Re: Trade Landscape/Trade Ideas
Assuming Bass continues to play pretty well....and Faverani proves he is a decent backup...
I could see a 3 way deal with Houston making sense. Bass and Faverani to Houston. A stiff player with 1 or 2 years left on his contract and a first round pick to Boston. Asik to some other team trying to contend. I really don't think the Howard/Asik combination will work at all so regardless of what the Houston gm says, he needs to trade Asik.
A deal like this couldn't be completed until after December 15th.

Rather have Faverani than a 1st from a contender. He's pretty cost-controlled and he has a good role on the team.

Re: Trade Landscape/Trade Ideas
I think you can trade Bass to Houston without involving Asik. You'd have to wait until December 15th, but you could do this trade:
Bass to HOU
Motiejunas, Jones, Brewer to BOS
Motiejunas and Jones are both really talented, young players who can compete for playing time in the frontcourt. They're young, cost-controlled and athletic - the kind of guys you can use later on as trade chips to get a stud.

I'd just take Asik in the deal as opposed to involving a 3rd team. He's the same age as Rondo - he can be a long-term piece.

so we really think Bass is worth that much?

I saw a good bit of the HOU-LAL game last night. They featured Dwight and Asik together quite a bit against the Pau-Kaman combo. I had been optimistic about that pairing, but it was fairly ugly last night, and a pretty ugly game in general. I don't know if he had an illness or what but Asik kind of looked like a mess.
Maybe if Dwight's offense comes back but he was pretty mediocre from what I saw, just a good rebounder. Jones and D. Mo. didn't see the floor from the parts I saw. They very well could be trade bait.

I've only watched a little, and yes, he can play like a bonehead, but he is 23, 7 feet tall and can stroke it. You're not getting a stud for Bass, but getting two big men under the age of 24 who both have 1st round talent is a nice return.
Honestly, I doubt Morey would even do that trade; maybe he'd trade one of the two plus Brewer and spare parts, but probably not both. Both Jones and Donatas are too early in their careers to judge whether they will pan out or not.

Like I said, probably not; likely that we'd just get one of those two plus Brewer and filler. I'd still take that deal though - Jones or Motiejunas provide something our current bigs don't offer and are under 24, cost-controlled and athletic. If you can get younger and cheaper and more cost-controlled, that is a net-win in exchange for a steady contributor in his prime like Bass.

Idk I want no part of the kid. He creates more opportunities for the other team than he does for his own.
But no houston wouldnt do that trade anyway, youre right.

Motiejunas has played ~550 minutes in his career. That's the equivalent of 15 games for a guy getting 36 MPG. Too early to say he stink or hurts a team. He's the kind of guy who would make sense playing for a crummy team, where he can work through his mistakes on the court.

I saw the game as well and that is what prompted my post. I agree Asik didn't look good as well. Howard isn't much of a post up scorer and should really only be used their in limited circumstances when its easy to make a pass into him and he has a real advantage. I thought the analysis of Shaq about Howard needing to get 20 shots was absolutely crazy since he just isn't that good on offense anymore. At this point, its much better for him to accept his limitations on offense but try to be very efficient in the opportunities he does get and concentrate his energy on defense.
I think for Dwight to do well he not only has to improve himself but the court has to be opened up.

Re: Trade Landscape/Trade Ideas
I don't spend much time making up fake trades, but I gotta admit watching the Houston game last night I was thinking there's gotta be a way that Houston and Boston can help each other.
Asik obviously doesn't work on Houston. Houston wants to put shooters around Dwight. The role for Asik is ideally 10-15 minutes a night, if that. Playing them together is just a waste of resources.
I think Fav would be the perfect backup to Dwight. He can shoot a little, play defense, and most importantly he's cost controlled for the next 3 years and would slot perfectly into a 10-15 minutes a night role.
Here the trade I was kicking around:
Green + Bass + Fav for Asik + Lin + Beverly + Greg Smith
Asik is the perfect fit around KO and Sully. Smith replaces Bass's athleticism around the rim. Lin and Beverly complement Rondo and Bradley almost perfectly. It's a win/win for both sides. And we just happen to open up a spot at SF when several good SF prospects coming out in next year's draft.

Bass and Fav would help them so much, I'd rather give them Wallace than Green.. We would take a huge luxury tax hit next year with those payments to Asik and Lin..
