On signing with the Wizards in 2012: “I almost felt like a fish out of water, because I was just thrown here.”
Last year, the Wizards were the only team willing to give him a chance. This year, it was easy to make the decision to sign with the Wizards. Other teams were willing to make an offer, but the Wizards were family.
--
Welcome back Webby. Always thought you would resign and glad you did.
He really is like that crazy cool Uncle you have in your family. He is a big part of the culture change here and glue that keeps the team both focused and lose. I really like the balance of things he brings to the team and what he provides to help them on the court as well as what he teaches the younger players to prepare them to get more out of their talent.
The franchise has done well to rebuild its culture by bring in the right type of players and Webby is no small part of that. Expect more FAs to follow Webster, AH and Maynor.
The Wiz franchise is no longer a place you get traded to and you hold strong for a buy out because you don't want to play there like Big Z and other did. We can now get players better then Jason Collins. Things are headed in the right direction.

He is a 68 on 2k14 while Porter and Ariza are both in the 70s. Porter a 73 I think and Ariza 75 or 78.

That is the quote of the year from hands. Such high standards now for the Wiz. Imagine if they ever got to .500. Dare to dream.

In you all opinion will Webster live up the hype of last season which got him the resign?
Do you believe its fair to trade him if he doesn't return to that gameplay level of last season?
Because if he doesn't, it seem like a decent trade for a decent young big, while drafting a decent replacement SF/PF in the lotto.

I'm not going to judge his production based on a few pre seasons game...I doubt he's AS good last season, but I think he is going through an adjustment period playing with that diminutive rock pounder Maynor.
He should be starting. Spacing is very important to the starting unit, and we can't be digging ourselves early graves with the crap ariza is putting out.

Re: Wizards Sign Martell Webster
One of the best parts about preseason are the laughs you get from a players statistical returns early on. Obviously we'd like more out of Beal/Nene/Seraphin but then you have Webster...whose advanced stats are absurd.
PER 21, TS% 72%, oRTG 157, dRTG 108 and WS/48 of .235.
The small ball era might really be beneficial to us. We have 2 great SFs, maybe 3 if Porter ever acquires a hip.
Oh and I didn't know this, but according to draftexpress, webster has an 8'10 standing reach O_o
I'd love to see a lineup of
Wall
Webster
Porter
Ariza
Gortat
just for the wingspans.

Webster with another showing of why we should keep Rice Jr. on the shelf.

Dude, I don't know what your problem with Webster is. Though 6 games he has been the Wizards most efficient scorer with a .619 TS%. If anything he should get more minutes and his starting job back so Wall can start getting him the ball to his money spots (i.e. the right corner).

If this was the plan with Webster, why re-sign him? He clearly looks uncomfortable playing the 2 so the idea that he can backup both spots was flawed. And whereas last year he was consistent with and w/o Wall, this year he doesn't seem like he can get anything going with Maynor on the second unit.

I don't think he's uncomfortable playing the 2. In this offense, there doesn't seem to be much distinction between the 2 and 3 anyhow. Webster's problem is that he's not a guy who creates off the dribble. He's a catch-and-shoot player who is dependent on others to draw defensive attention and swing it to him. Unfortunately, he plays on the 2nd unit with nobody who can draw that attention.
Wittman needs to play Nene on the 2nd unit. Whether or not that means Nene starts doesn't matter to me. He just needs to be in there to prop up the 2nd unit. Webster usually plays well off of Nene because he knows how to make a back door cut.

These are the problems created by a shallow roster crafted by a crappy GM. We have no viable backup PG and we have no viable backup bigs.

Here comes you friendly neighborhood spiderman.

35 minutes last night, Webby was 21 pts 10 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists.
This is the guy I think makes this team tick. Hopefully we see him moved to the starting lineup. Hope Trevor A returns soon.

So far this season he is actually playing better than he did last year. His TS is above 60%, his rebounding is up, turnovers down, currently ranked 10th in PER among 3s.

Yeah Webster is really balling again this year. He's been quite good on the boards in quite a few games and boy have we needed it.

He's been handling the ball a little more at the 2 and doing a good job of it - and making smart passes. He's mostly doing the same things he'd do at the 3 but is doing a little more as far as expanding his role.

Really want Glen to develop as well as Otto to contribute so Webster can be given some rest. Love his ability to play well in extended minutes. The man deserved the money he got IMO. I was afraid we'd see a considerable drop off in production, but he is a consummate pro. And my word, the guy is fairly clutch, I didn't expect that out of him.

Interesting stat to perhaps show a change in him - the last 5 games, he's averaged 4.6 assists per game. Until he came to Washington, he never averaged more than 1.2 per game.
