Week 10- Da Bearse vs. The Lionesses
I didn't see a game thread yet, and it was already Thursday... so... here you go!
What's on the line: First place.
What's on the mind: Revenge.
While spirits are running high after a well earned victory over the Packers, we do have a short week and are playing a team that has a more stout defense than the Packers and an offense that has its main weapons in tact. I think what worries me most is Reggie Bush playing and Lance Briggs not playing. That could be a recipe for disaster. If we could unleash a heaping serving of pass rush against the Lions like we did against Green Bay, I think that will go a long way to controlling Calvin Johnson's production and bait Matt Stafford into a little bit of stupid. Its just hard to tell whether Monday night was our pass rush finally progressing to the norm, or if it was an outlier.
On the other side of the ball our pass protection will be tested, especiall in the interior of the line, but I like how Trestman keeps solving for "X". I think we'll be productive even if Josh McCown is behind center.
Prediciton: Da Bearse! 31-27.

How good are we now? Great win on monday.
We actually saw turner coordinating some defense last week and it didnt look bad. Wonder if they stick to that adjustment.

Its hard to tell whether the defense really improved Monday night or not, or whether the Packers just became too one-dimensional. I'm in the camp where I blame Tucker for some of our struggles this year, but also place blame on the players and injuries. But I also don't know if I can give him credit for the improvement Monday night. The safeties still couldn't tackle. Ironically, I think Reggie Bush will be an easier assignment for the safeties than Eddie Lacy, but possibly a tougher one for Bostic and Greene.
But whatever our DL ate for breakfast on Monday morning, I hope they eat the same thing Sunday morning. The pass rush from them was exceptional. It could have been a much needed bye week taking effect, injuries to the Packers OL, or Seneca Wallace not being as alert in the pocket... I'm not sure. Or maybe it was something Tucker was dialing up. Whatever it was... more please! This could be the key to the game and the key to making the playoffs. I have full confidence the offense will show up every week.

It all comes down to the pass rush.

Maybe. Bush could run wild on us again as well.
Also, I'm inclined to believe that our pass rush was good against the Packers because their oline is actually that bad. Lions oline on the other hand is one of the better ones this year. I'll be more encouraged with this game if our pass rush can get preassure on Stafford.
The plus side over-all in this game is that the Lions also have a weak pass rush/defense, so we should be able to score on them to keep pace if we need to.
And seeing as it's at home, I think we get the win in a high scoring affair.

The bears haven't played at soldier field in 5 weeks. They played the giants on October 10th. Hopefully the crowd is a factor against the lions.

Quality safety play and pass rush are key for the defense. On offense, we need to keep chugging along, the Lions' secondary should not stop us.

I forgot if it was doubtful or questionable but Shea is one of those due to hurting his hamstring in practice and Cutler is expected to play according to Trestman

He is questionable. Too bad, would hate to see him not be able to build on Monday nights performance.
Pat Mannely is out.
