Remind me again...we want the Pistons to be the ninth suckiest team, and the Blazers to be the 13th suckiest set team, right?

Re: Future picks watch
Is that the best case though? I don't think we want three more rookies, we'll almost certainly package them if we end up with all three picks. We currently have 5 guys on rookie deals (6 if you count Southerland), and at some point you've gotta pay for all these guys. Hendo got $6 mil per, obviously we want our more recent picks to pan out better and if they do they'd command more money.
As of now, we only have 7 players under contract for next season, and it was only 4 until we exercised Kemba, Biz, and MKG's options on Halloween. The others are Big Al, Hendo, Zeller, and Haywood. That number jumps to 9 if you consider the likely possibilities of us keeping JT on his unguaranteed salary and McBob exercising his PO. BG ($13.2m), Ramon ($5m), Rocky ($916k), Pargo ($884k), and Tolliver ($884k) all expire, and Southerland has a QO of about $1m.
With those 9 guys, we'll have salary of about $41.6m vs. a cap of $62.1m, but then we also have rookies to sign. If we luck into Wiggins, his salary will have a cap hit of $5.5m, the 9th pick? $2.5m; 13th: $2.05m, and 31 will likely get around $750k. So those three rookies would take up basically half of our remaining cap space. Then you have to consider if we want to extend Kemba and Biz. Kemba especially could be pricey, consider that Curry got $11m per (this is BEFORE his monster 2012-13 season), Lawson got $12m, and more recently Wall got $16m!!!
The good news is that any extensions wouldn't affect the cap until 2015-16, so MJ could still have about $10m to play with in free agency I assume. But the point remains, rookies can actually hurt cap flexibility. Even if we get all three picks I'll be shocked if we bring in more than 2 players in the first round.

Absolutely that's the best possible scenario moving forward. Wiggins plus two lottery picks we could move up along with say Henderson and Taylor for maybe Selden or Exum?
Imagine rolling into 2014-15 with
Jefferson/Biz
Zeller/McBob
MKG/Wiggins
Wiggins/Exum
Kemba/Exum

Re: Future picks watch
Two rookies would be fine, my point was that we could draft as many as 4 rookies this year, though I don't think that would be the best move.

Let's say the DET and POR picks are 10 and 15. If you're holding Exum do you want to forfeit him for those two players plus filler?

I wouldn't given the little I know about Exum at this point.
I think we'll end up keeping our own pick somewhere between 5-9 and getting DET pick somewhere between 12-18. I'm rooting for POR to get us theirs in this loaded draft but the west is tough.

Utah and Denver bowing out of the Western Conference playoff race might give Portland a chance to finally make the postseason after like a 4 year drought.

Re: Future picks watch
Detroit wants to make the playoffs orlando, Boston, Philly don't plus us Toronto, and Atlanta might come to their senses and try for a high pick. It's either Detroit or Milwaukee as the 8th seed. I like Detroit better of the two but I hope I'm wrong and the bucks owner gets his elusive 8th seed.
That Dwight Howard trade keeps looking better I read somewhere that orlando gets the best of Denver and Knicks pick. That Magic team with a top 5 and top 10 pick! Between them is Cleveland and Detroit I can see a power shift between conferences or at least closing the gap.

Detroit's now 2-3. Drummonds not exactly catching the world on fire.

Its going to be comical to see how many teams go on tank watch after the All-Star Break. I cant really see the Bobcats getting a top 7 with how many teams below us are worse and willing to suck for a high pick.
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

Drummond is basically averaging 10 & 10. He may not be catching the world on fire, but he's been extremely solid for a 20 year old

Solid, sure. But he was so hyped by Piston fans and the GB it was ridiculous.

Drummond and Monroe have to dominate any metric that measures combined rebounds between the 4 & 5 in starting lineups across the league

Re: Future picks watch
I'm rooting against both picks even though this is a deep draft. DET pick would become top-1 protected heading into next season and POR one step closer to unprotected heading into 2014-2015.
I would think if Charlotte wants to add another potential franchise player in this draft, it might be easier to do it if DET and POR picks look promising down the road vs. if they end up being say picks 14 and 15 in this draft, maybe even 9 and 13.
If you're a GM do you prefer guaranteed picks 9 and 13 in 2014 or a potential top-1 protected in 2015 and/or a possible unprotected pick in 2016?
The value might not differ all that much.
What if you are offered picks 14 and 15 in 2014 or a potential top-1 protected 2015 and unprotected pick 16?
My conclusion is, whether we add both picks or both tank the probability we will add another potential star player in addition to our own pick, is fairly high.

I think as soon as this seasons tankathon is over then teams will gear up for the Okafor tankathon.
I'm not sure we could even land a high 2015 pick for the Detroit+Portland combination.
