I'm not big on those trades because I think Wallace is done and is also a horrible fit for us. However, I agree this is the type of deal Dumars should be looking for right now. This team cannot survive with Singler/JJ/Bynum in the rotation. He's done a great job bringing in talented players and it has shown but now he needs to finish the job with one more trade to get us some bench help.

Gerald Wallace's contract is not something you want. And unless we get Courtney Lee I'm not really interested in trading with the Celtics.

This.

We do need to solidify our bench, but this isn't the type of move we should make.

Courtney Lee sucks. I would MUCH rather have Stuckey and KCP. I don't understand the infatuation some people have with him.

Courtney Lee sucks because Boston doesn't have anybody down low that scares anybody, put him on a team that gets him some open looks and he'd be serviceable. ive been saying we should trade JJ for him for a while now.

I would love Bass as a backup big, but it's probably not worst the lost flexibility of taking on Wallace's contract.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

No to Gerald Wallace. Terrible fit. Terrible contract.

I'd actually like Jeff Green, but expect Boston would want more than I'd be willing to give up for him.

What's more then you're willing to give? I'd imagine lee, green for Charlie v, kcp, first available pick, let's say top 10 protected would make ainge think. Is that too much?
Boston cleans some salary, goes to full rebuild and get a prospect and pick. What are your plans with green, sixth man?

Both teams do the second deal in my original post:

KCP, Stuckey, Charlie V, Bynum, Jerebko
for
Jeff Green, Gerald Wallace, Avery Bradley, Brandon Bass

Don't know why everyone is hating on Gerald Wallace. You think I want him in Detroit? No. But if we have an opportunity to gain other assets while taking on a bad contract we need to explore those situations.

Keep in mind Jerebko and Bynum make 7M together making Wallace only an extra 3M this year and next, and then we bite the bullet in the last year of his deal. But once again subtracting what we owed Bynum in his last year, Wallace's final year would only truly cost us 7M (but he would be a nice trade chip then as a 10M expiring).

Boston makes this trade and if they have second thoughts we can throw in 2nd rounders or Mitchell and Siva. Boston clears 17M off salary next year and 25M the year after for a total savings of 42M and gain KCP, a 2013 top 10 pick and a better than decent prospect.

Pistons, meanwhile, are really set at all positions besides back-up C after this trade:

Jennings starts and Billups comes off the bench

Bradley would instantly start next to Jennings solidifying our starting rotation thus allowing Singler to exclusively back up the 2 spot and become comfortable playing one position instead of constantly shuffling between 2/3.

Jeff Green / Smith split duty at the 3 with Green / Smith / Datome all playing back up SF when needed.

Monroe starts and Bass gives us that McDyess style player coming off the bench to consistently give us around 8-10 pts / 5 boards a night.

As for Gerald Wallace, he can get spot minutes (probably Singler's minutes backing up the 2) off the bench but if we keep him fresh he could be an asset come playoff time and a real x factor in a 7 game series. Imagine a series where we start Smith / Monroe / Drummond then slide Monroe to C and run Green / Smith / Monroe.

As another poster mentioned, we are really 1-2 players away from making serious noise bc as evidenced in the last few games we are easily capable of beating big teams like Indy and OKC but we dont have the glue guys needed to take us to the next step. Dumars needs to be looking to take that next step or we are gonna be in the worst place possible, out of the playoffs but with our pick going to Charlotte.

Pistons pick is already going to CHA top 8 protected (I think).

Super 6th man would be nice. He could essentially replace any of Smith/Monroe/Drummond with our ability to shift positions... but truth be told we might actually be better off with Smith/Green/Drummond starting up front and trading Monroe for a 2guard. Or heck, even trading Monroe for Green and getting additional value in return. But that idea will get me roasted on this board and I'm not sure how to make that sort of deal work anyway since I'd imagine we'd be asking a LOT for Monroe given how well he's started the season and his ability to play C.

I think Monroe/CV/Stuckey for Green/Bass/Lee fixes a lot of our roster issues and should actually make us a better team... but is off in terms of value, and as I said I dunno how to fix that.

What roster problems are those? So far the Smith/Monroe/Drummond experiment has been a resounding success. Our offense has actually been better than our defense and it's only a matter of time before our defense starts to click. If our good 3 point shooters (Jennings/Billups/KCP/Singler) could actually hit an open jumpshot we could be 4-1 right now but unfortunately they are ice cold to start the season. Trading Monroe is not the answer at all. Instead we need to package our non-core players for some bench help (particularly a backup SF) and we will be good to go. Another reason I hate the idea of trading Monroe is that it changes our identity and eliminates our low post scoring, considering that Dre and Smith are not proficient low post scorers. We will go from being a team that dominates the paint in every facet of the game to being just another above average team with no specific identity. Sure our shotblocking will still be good but we lose a lot of rebounding and paint scoring. It will hurt us in the playoffs when we don't have a big to throw it down low to. It would be really similar to the Clippers situation actually. Both teams would have two big men (Smith/Dre and Griffin/Jordan) who rely on high flying athleticism in the open court rather than polished offensive half court games. Trading Monroe would be a big mistake, especially since he is probably our best player right now.

^ this basically (DPs post), we just either need the supposed shooters on our team to get on point or Joe needs to make a move or two to add some efficient 3 and D role players and its looking like this thing might just work out.

I am not willing to take on that Wallace contract without adding in a Jennings/Rondo swap. That deal is brutal! The Pistons don't need to take on salary to improve the bench when the SL is the problem.

I don't see Boston moving Bradley or Sullinger just to dump Wallace. Celtics cap situation isn't bad at all.

However, I do think there could be some sort of deal between the two teams. Courtney Lee and Brandon Bass would be excellent fits but I don't see Danny Ainge simply taking expirings.

Why trade with Boston. They are a junk team(Just the way I like them)and will be or a ton of years with their current roster. There are a bunch of other teams in the sea we can trade with. Make it a team out west.

Besides, its not like Boston has anything saying wow to me.

Oh, and to those STILL talking Rondo. You never, ever trade for a player like him, with that type of injury, EVER. You wait, and see.
