So says AA via Shi Davidi

That's a small amount of money saved and an opening on the 25-man roster.

He had a nice career

I guess he didn't want to bother coming back to the team or that locker room (which apparently was fine).

Interesting.

I wondered when I heard this whether he would have played one more season somewhere if we had not picked up his option.

He was better than anybody could have expected last year and did everything asked of him and more.

They'll need to get somebody to replace his bat against LHP. Lind clearly cannot be allowed to face them.

There's been quite a bit of talk that he wants to go into broadcasting, and if someone approached him about that, his $750k salary isn't much incentive to delay.

Also think if he wanted to goto another team a trade could've been worked out

Good the more turnover the better.

Now send Tanya Harding to Maicer's last known location. Maybe Melke will be close by.

Jays probably offered him a coaching gig in which he turned down.

DeRosa struck me as a prototypical "coach". I'm surprised he didn't head that way, but he'll probably do so in time. This allows him a little separation from the game that maybe he needed. Plus, he's well-spoken so broadcasting should be an easy transition for him.

It still does come as a bit of a surprise. It would have been nice to have a veteran leader going into 2014 to help continue to mentor Lawrie and provide a bridge in that locker room.

I liked what he did for the team, and thought he was a good guy to have around the younger players.
