I just dont see it. As nice a kid as he is.. He just reeks of Mike Beasley or a less athletic Derrick Williams. Nice shooting stroke though

No not dumb at all. Very smart player actually. But is he any more athletic than a guy like Rodney Rogers? He's not Kevin Love where he can be under sized and still just fill it up.. I just dont him as an nba frontline player, which is where he'll be drafted.

Parker will be a perennial all-star and the best player in this upcoming draft.
I can make one promise about Parker and the upcoming draft. If the Utah Jazz get the number 1 pick (which it looks like they will they are terrible) they are picking him. The GM must be pinching himself. A legitimate cornerstone franchise player who is Mormon. Come one man. He probably actually wants to get drafted by the Jazz and stay there. Utah is probably not at the top of NBA players wishlist of destinations. No offense, just saying.
The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

Seeing him play tonight, he reminded me so much of a Syracuse-era Carmelo. Color me impressed.

Re: Jabari Parker will be the best player in the 2014 Draft
I still don't get the Carmelo comparisons, but I am more impressed with Parker than I was previously. He is a little slow, but offensively he'll be able to score because he has the handle to get where he wants to shoot. His athleticism may make him a liability on defense, but he should be enough of a scorer to offset that to some degree. I'm jumping him over Randle, because I have questions about his ability to score and defend in the post against bigger players.
Updated draft board:
1. Wiggins
2. Parker
3. Randle
4. Embiid
5. Smart

Smart is not top 5. Selden, Harris, and Exum are easily better. Parker is plenty athletic, he has quick feet and is crafty

I respect your opinion, but I do not agree. I'm not sure I have any of those guys in my top 7, (maybe Selden if I think about it). I realize the consensus is that Exum is a top 5, but I don't see it. The comparisons to Penny Hardaway are absurd. He isn't as gifted athletically as Penny, and he isn't a natural playmaker. Smart is a defensive sevant and is a physical beast. All he has to do is tighten his jump shot, and he will be able to compete with NBA players from day 1. He'll be at least as good as Oladipo.

Re: Jabari Parker will be the best player in the 2014 Draft
Yeah, I was thinking a bit before the season started that Smart being ranked as top 5 was probably a bit too high. I haven't seen Smart play yet this season, so I am looking forward to it but based on his freshmen year, I wouldn't take him in the top 5.
I love Dante Exum, but I'm now reaching the period where I want to watch more of his footage before pimping him up some more. Based on small sample size, I like Exum more than Smart.
I'd take Seldon over Smart, not sure about Harris, but he seemed pretty impressive last night. I'd have to see a bit more, but I could see Smart falling down to #9 or #10.
I might be crazy, but I kinda like Hood's potential a lot. I think he's going to start being in the mix as well.
I'm not sold on Embiid as a high lotto pick though. Not yet.
Victor Oladipo isn't great though. He was just the best player in a really weak draft. If Victor was in this draft, I wouldn't take him in the top 5 either.

Doesn't Smart have problems with his advanced ball handling ability though? I haven't watched that much of him, but just recalling things from scouting reports and what people here have said.

Re: Jabari Parker will be the best player in the 2014 Draft
Jabari is a beast. He's been shooting lights out so far on all sorts of shots. Pull up fadeaways, step back jumpers, jab step three pointers, spot up shots. He's also a pretty good ball handler, and pretty crafty around the rim. He's not very fast, but he can make up for that with skill. Paul Pierce has for quite a while.
I don't understand all of the talk about his lack of athleticism. He's got hops, coordination, and good body control. He's obviously not at Wiggins' level, but Jabari is still a good athlete. Definitely above average imo.
Based on what i've seen so far, I'd take him over anybody other than Wiggins. Wouldn't surprise me if he steps it up a level and becomes the consensus #1 eventually though.

Parker may lack elite quickness both vertical and lateral. This can be overcome with physicality and he can still be great in the NBA, but on average its harder to pull off. Guys like Wiggins can generate space at will with fakes and first steps which can be easier than using your body to clear space as a wing.

Re: Jabari Parker will be the best player in the 2014 Draft
In a lot of ways he reminds me of a bigger Kyrie Irving, not as shifty as Irving but the body control, craftiness, and poise, the ability to go left or right and laying it in high off the glass, step back J, shoots from anywhere but love shooting it deep from the top of the arc and from the corner, and freezes his man in the lane w/ the hesitation dribble pull up.
They both sound all too familiar.

Jabari is a legit combo foward.
I wouldn't play him exclusively at the 3, I would play him a the 4 and even at the 5 in some cases.
I would also use him as a point forward.
Jabari could do it all.

I hear all this talk about how he could be a "point forward". Down the road he could and people talk about how how Wiggins has no handle(which is not true). But Parker needs refinement in his ball handling too, he's a solid ball handler but more than once when he was dribbling the ball in the second half he had it poked out. Didn't he have 7 TOs. People talk about Wiggins but Parker's handle is not their either. He has a jumper but don't overrate his handle!

no, jabari did not have 7 TOs. you must be thinking of randle who had 8.
jabari's handle is nice. he doesn't over-dribble, knows how to create space with the dribble and he has a nice array of moves.
having point forward potential is more than just having a handle. it's more about IQ and playmaking. jabari is high IQ and sees the floor well. that being said, i don't see him being a point forward, but i do see him being able to run PnR and having offense run through him from different spots on the floor.

Err... he had 2 turnovers against Kansas. 1 against Davidson. Jabari's handle may not be great, but its definitely good enough to get him to his spots and create his own shot. Definitely significantly better than Wiggins at this point, who seems to stick to mostly straight line drives when he dribbles.
