No offense to Gortat, but any future moves should not be made with him in mind. Gortat is a free agent this summer, and it would make more sense for the team to address the position if they can.

I can understand that argument. But I like his game and I'd at least like to think we'd maintain the option to either keep him or do a sign-and-trade next summer.

Of course, we could solve that problem by trading Gortat for Asik. :D (And then if we went ahead with my Nene for Nash idea to get Wall a mentor, we'd then set ourselves up for 2015 Kevin Love sweepstakes.)

Ed Davis is having a down year, I wonder if Hollinger is willing to give up on him, and hope that he hasn't checked the advanced stats on Seraphin >.>

Actually its not a bad idea. Only hiccup might be them hoping Nash retires. (that gets them off the hook, right?)

A Nash/ Jordan Hill for Nene deal is interesting. The Lakers should stil have cap space to make a run at Melo, and that option might look more attractive to him with Kobe/Nene in hand. The Wizards lose a big, but pick up $3 MM or so next year when Hill expires.

I always thought Hollinger was such a blow-hard at BSPN and a little part of me is thrilled he's looking like a dufus as the Memphis GM. Giving away Wroten for a phantom 2nd. Trading Calderons expiring for a worthless near dead Prince. Acquiring Davis but not playing him. Silliness

So, apparently Rockets GM Moery thinks he can swindle a largely unprotected lottery pick or immediate front court help out of someone.

Not sure Asik should be valued that highly. Too bad Ernie already gave that up for the Polish Hammer.

Minor point, but Hollinger didn't trade Calderon, he traded Rudy Gay. Toronto was the team that swapped Calderon for Gay in the deal that brought Prince and Davis to Memphis.

Also, while Wroten had a terrific game the other night, his terrible efficiency has been on display this season (ortg of just 96 so far). He's very young and inexperienced, and he has great physical tools, but he has a ways to go to be a good player for a team trying to win.

OK, how's this for a little Saturday morning pipe dream?

Houston trades: Asik, Terrence Jones
Houston receives: Nene

We know Morey wanted Nene in the past. He's a great fit on that team -- he can play next to Howard or back him up. They are legit contenders and even if they pay a slight lux tax over the next couple years (which they could possibly avoid) they should be able to afford it

Milwaukee trades: Ilyasova, Luke Ridnour
Milwaukee receives: Ariza (exp), Terrence Jones, Glen Rice Jr.

They add two young pieces while also creating cap space to fill their glaring need at PG. They save money immediately by dumping Ridnour too.

Wizards trade: Nene, Ariza, Rice
Wizards receive: Asik, Ilyasova, Ridnour (Dat is going to have pigment issues with this deal).

The Turkish Tandem is great fit with our core.

Then, we let Gortat walk (sucks to have wasted that pick, but sunk costs are sunk) and we Nick Collison the hell out of Asik with our cap room. Give him a huge signing bonus and extend him for pennies on the dollar relative to his market value cap number.

We could go into the 14-15 offseason with Wall, Beal, Porter, Ilyasova, Asik and Webster AND Max level cap space. And Eric Maynor will be gone.

If Houston will give us Asik and Jones for Nene, the rest is just details. That's highway robbery right there. Heck, I might just stick with that trade and forget the Milwaukee part. I'd at least want to give Terrence Jones a look and see if he can develop into a quality stretch four.

At any rate, if the plan is to let Gortat walk, we should definitely shop him for a pick and an expiring contract. Ariza too. Or maybe trade Ariza for a PG.

Prince really has nosedived, but it seemed the centerpiece of that trade was Memphis getting out of Gay's contract and replacing it with contracts that were easier to deal with. Davis could have some value in trade, if they don't have a place for him. Memphis hasn't used an amnesty yet, have they? If not, they could still ditch Prince's last year.

I've got the PERFECT trade:

Wiz trade: Nene for Afflalo+Terrence Jones
Magic trade: Harkless+Afflalo for Asik
Houston trades: Asik+Jones for Nene+Harkless

Magic get a much needed big center (who is defensive) to pair with Vucavic, Houston gets a replacement big in Nene who wants to play PF, and they get a young SF who is cheap in Harkless.

Wiz get Afflalo to be a defensive 6th man (and can provide quality depth at SG & SF), while getting Terrence Jones to be the young stretch PF they have been looking for.

I'd then trade Ariza for anything of value (namely, young bigs) (not that I don't like Trevor, but with Webster, Porter, and Afflalo, he's a luxary). Something along the lines of Ariza for Bonner+de Colo+2014 1st (lotto protected). Spurs get an Ace defender for the playoffs (who can hit open 3s), while we get a late 1st rounder and a better backup PG in de Colo (anyone is better than Maynor).

Wiz would have more cap space in my deals in the downgrade of salary from Nene to Afflalo.

Okay, I will make you a deal: indulge my fantasy that nets Asik and Ilyasova and I will allow us to trade Gortat for a pick. Gortat and Vesely for Danny Granger's corpse and Indy's late first? Gortat for Perkins and picks?

If HOU is willing to give up Asik+Jones for Nene+filler, I'd rather cut ORL out and just keep Asik/Jones for ourselves rather than flipping Asik for Afflalo (which sounds pretty bad when you put it that way). I do like Gortat, but that's a deal I think the Wiz would have to make.

Problem is, I'm not sure I see HOU adding Nene's contract.

Harkless isn't filler. He;s a young, cheap athletic SF who showed promise last year. We have nothing like that on our roster.

I think he meant that for all intents and purposes, he moved Calderon for Prince. MEM had the choice to just keep Calderon in the deal and sought out Detroit to get Prince instead for him

I know you don't want to hear it but Gay for the giant expiring poo poo platter of Ariza, Vesely, Booker, Seraphin, Singleton, Rice. Think Ernie does it? Would you do it?

(Assuming that it's legal to do that if you have D League players signed simultaneously or something)

I honestly believe that Ariza is a better basketball player than Gay, so no, I wouldn't do it.

Ersan is a good rebounder. I think he fits perfect with Nene/Wall/Beal.
