Trent Richardson and other Alabama players

How come Alabama players have such a hard time making it in the NFL or have such a low success rate, but players from Georgia and LSU seem to have an easier time making the transition from college to NFL?

Could be the powerhouse affect. When you have so much talent around you, everyone looks good because theyre not getting exposed. For example, DBs look good because the QB is always under pressure cause the front 7 is so good, and DLine look better when good DBs cover well and force the QB to hold on to the ball and get sacked. Offensively, when you have talent around you, defenses can't single out certain guys so you get less attention than if you played at a school with less talent.

I remember Miami had some of this when they were dominant in the early 2000s. Of course they had their studs, but there were also draft picks that weren't as good as they thought they could be in college.

I don't think it's been that bad, they've had some good, they've had some bad. Like most schools. I wonder what schools been the biggest powerhouse in terms of pro bowlers vs busts.

We often hear about teams scouting one player than falling in love with his teammate. I wonder if that happened for the negative. Like Oakland falling in love with Phillip Buchanon over Ed Reed.

First guy I thought of is Kareem Jackson. Granted I don't watch college football but I figure something like that must have been the case for such a garbage ass corner to get drafted so high.

Their defensive players seem to be good. Offense has been hit or miss. Julio Jones is a stud, Eddie Lacy looks good, but Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson have been mediocre at best. They've had other good offensive players pre Nick Saban though(Shawn Alexander, Chris Samuels to name a couple).

Trent Richardson in particular looked amazing in college because he was playing behind an NFL-caliber offensive line.

Yup. Having Chance Warmack and DJ Flucker blocking for you really helps.

I still to this day don't understand why the Browns took Richardson that high. Absolutely not worth it.

No. And I suspect he's the last running back we'll see taken in the top-10 for a long, long time. In fact, I would suspect we start to see more and more drafts where RBs get shut out of the first round entirely. It's becoming easier and easier to find quality RBs in the later rounds and with the rise of running back-by-committee, it's becoming harder and harder to justify spending a premium pick on the position.
