What a tough one. Both were very good in their roles. In some ways, I think Marion meant more, as Nash was the engine for SSOL, but Marion was the glue. He defended every position made rebounds, put-backs, hustle plays, etc. He did a bit of everything. Amare was more of a pure scorer in comparison.

Everyone talks about Amare's finishes, but we're doing a great disservice to Marion by not remembering how spectacular he was athletically and at the rim overall.

This is a very good point. Amar'e got on some posters but Marion actually did too, and he was a complete freak athletically all over the court.

Amare made SSOL possible. Steve ran the offense, but without a C (*cough* PF *cough*) as offensively gifted at Amare, the whole thing would have been a joke.
I love(d) Marion, but I didn't miss him when he left. Also, I feel that Grant Hill stepped into Marion's role quite seamlessly - something no one could ever do for Amare and what he brought to the team.
A lot of you are forgetting how epic the Nash/Amare PNR was. It was practically unstoppable.

On Steve Nash:

Wait, 2005-2006 was a joke?

I always thought that Amare and Marion, if the best parts of their games were fused, would be the perfect big-man.
Amare had the nastiest finishing ability of the 2000's. He made Duncan look like a bad 1on1 defender. If he was within 6 feet of the hoop, he could power through anyone. Add his improved jumpshot, his fluidity, his knack for offense....he was the perfect PnR weapon.
If you added Marion's length, his springy bounce, his rebounding abilities as a 6'6-6'7 player, his defensive versatility, his steals, blocks and hustle.....
Dang, those were some good years.

Re: Shawn Marion vs Amare Stoudemire
Amare for me. Few Reasons
I think at the age of like 22 or 23 he had a 50 point game for a bigman that is unheard of to be honest.
In 2001 Playoffs he banged a 3 to send it to OT against the spurs!

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.
Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.
