2014 MLB Wheelings & Dealings

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Tue Nov 19, 2013 1:19 am

I figure we can stick all the free agency moves and random news from the offseason here.

First few headlines:

Carlos Ruiz re-ups with the Phillies for 3-yr/$26 mil
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/99959 ... arlos-ruiz

The Giants are close to finalizing a deal with Tim Hudson for 2-yr/$23 mil
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/99972 ... tim-hudson

Personally, I don't understand the deal for San Fran. They're giving a good chunk of money to a 38-year old guy who will be coming off of a devastating ankle injury. This after giving $35 million to Tim Lincecum and finally getting rid of Barry Zito's historically bad deal.

the deal is fine imo.
I can see Matt Cain and Bummy being a good 1-2 up top.

a 3-4-5 of Vogey/ Lincecum/ Huddy = not bad.

Just heard on the radio Jay-Z and Robby Cano are meeting with the Mets. I still don't see him leaving the Yankees though, well except for maybe the Dodgers.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Huddy is one of my all-time favorites, but there's no way we were going to give him that much money. Good luck in SF.

If he goes to the Mets, he's dead to me. He could literally end up anywhere besides the Mets, Sawx and Rays, and I'd be okay with it.

I like the fact that Randy Levine went on record again saying that they will not give him 10 years or $300 million. Thank Jeebus. I truly believe GMs are done handing out those deals (save Kershaw) after how horrendous the last batch of those mega-deals looks.

Chris Carpenter has retired. I think I'm safe in assuming we will see him on the Cardinals bench in some facet next season.

If Bourjos can actually stay healthy and Grichuk can keep refining his bat, the Cardinals could have a really great outfield with Holliday out there.

I know it's early in the offseason, but I think there will be another blockbuster coming.

It just seems to me that we have a lot of teams looking to try some different formulas to win because of what the Sawx did this year.

Where Cano goes will obviously dictate who makes bigger moves, but I'm already looking forward to spring.

would love to trade Kemp to Toronto.

But I know AA isn't going to get hosed in a deal. He knows a thing or two about passing off a bad contract on someone. 8-)
