I'm from South Florida planning a trip to Memphis/Nashville for the first time. I'm going with my gf. We are both 29.
I land in Memphis on Thurday around 10am and I fly out of Nashville on Sunday 3pm in January.
I need to figure out 4 days (3 nights) worth of attractions/nightlife (beale st? broadway?)/restaurants/sight-seeing/etc.
Can anyone help with some recommendations for memphis or nashville? Thanks a lot.

Re: Planning a trip to Memphis/Nashville
January 8th is Elvis birthday so you either you want to avoid that or go then to see a lot of crazy people at Graceland if that's your thing. January 20 is MLK day on a Monday so I guess your plan would not coincide with that home game. That weekend though has a good game at home against Sacramento. I mean you should be able to expect to see a win given how they played there last night!
But those are both special weekends for Memphis there should be good times to visit the Civil right museum and Graceland. Personally I love to take out of towners to Mud Island and the river museum but in January it's not exactly in season. The usual spots are all worth going to: Sun Studio, Beale Street, Gibson Guitar Museum, Stax. And all the BBQ you can force yourself to eat of course!

I'm kind of thinking of checking out the south at some point and Tennessee would definitely be worth seeing I think. I have to admit though as a historian the Civil War battle sites would probably be of more interest to me than all the bright city lights
.

You should check out Shiloh then if you're in the area. http://www.nps.gov/shil/index.htm And especially if you're doing Memphis and Nashville then Shiloh is sort of along the way. Another is in Vicksburg. http://www.nps.gov/vick/index.htm Very common to take field trips in school to these places. There were no major battles in Memphis except "naval" battle. Obviously the Mississippi river is an attraction in itself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Memphis

Re: Planning a trip to Memphis/Nashville
Vanjulio,
My plan is to fly into Memphis around 9:30am on Thursday, January 16, 2014.
I'll have a rental car. Between Graceland, Sun Studio, Stax, and the Gibson Guitar Museum...is there any order that you would recommend based on locations and time needed at each place?
Gonna spend the night downtown/Beale Street. Any specific restaurants/bars that you would recommend for memphis bbq?
Plan would be to hit the road and drive to Nashville Friday afternoon (then spend Friday night through Sunday morning in Nashville before heading home).
Thanks for your help!
