Time to Start from Scratch
I don't understand what this Lakers team is all about. Am I the only one? If they're relying on Kobe to take them to the next level, they're in for a rude awakening. He's not going to be what he was before. Gasol is lost in this system, so either he needs to go or D'Antoni should get the boot. The rest of the guys are a bunch of spare parts. I'm not seeing what I'm supposed to see here.

This is how I see it
There are 4 young guys that were very high picks on teams that sucked and wanted them to be franchise players. They may not be franchise players, but at least 2 could pan out to be great role players:
X- 12th pick, Kansas, 22 years old
Hill- 8th pick, Arizona, 26 years old
Wes- 4th pick, Syracuse, 26 years old
Young- 16th pick, USC, 28 years old
People are clamoring for us to trade everyone for first round picks, well, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that we draft a single player better than ANY of those 4 with a traded 1st round pick.
Noone is expecting Kobe to win a championship for us this year. I am hoping he can mentor people like X, Young, and Wes, while getting them wide open shots/dunks and building their confidence.
Pau looks flat out of shape to me. He has no lift on shots, rebounds, or blocks, and struggles to get up and down the floor. I am hoping that is all it is and it goes away in a month or so. If its an injury, I doubt he recovers and he will be a skinny sabonis the rest of his career. I have a feeling Kobe's return will rejuvinate pau's legs.
The truth is, management will never get rid of kobe. He will have to retire or leave on his own through free agency or trade request. That's just the way it is.
Our best hope for this season is to develop the young guys, have pau and kobe resign for much less or retire, and sign maybe one huge free agent this off season, and another next off season.

Start from scratch?
Uhhh...our entire team is on a 1-year contract. I think that's the plan.

What's wrong with rooting for the draft in a year that all we have are c players on one year deals and our only top notch player is 57 coming back from a torn achillies.
I rep my lakers as much as the nex guy but you can't believe we're gonna stay top dog every year. Especially now with this new collective bargaining agreement. Lakers gotta be smarter and develop their youngster.
I just don't get this false playoff hopes, this infatuation people have in wanting to be a first and out team and potentially missing out on a top flight rook.
I'll tell ya

Cap space is a given, cap space with a lottery pick would be optimal

I still can't help but feeling the league is wide-open this season. Now I wouldn't give the Lakers much of a chance, but I also wouldn't say it's worth losing, all in the hopes of winning a great pick in a lottery, in the hopes being able to extend said player in 3 years, and then they're ready to start carrying the team.
Even the greats take time to mold into franchise players.

For those rooting for a tank, I still dont understand who you think we are going to get with pick 10-14 that is better than say Jordan Hill. If you look at history, we are much more likely to get a Shannon Brown. We are not getting a Top 5 pick, even if kobe and nash sit out the rest of the year we are still WAAAAY better than the likes of NO, Sac, Utah, PHX, Mil, Was, etc.

Re: Time to Start from Scratch
It took time for Kobe to develop into champion franchise player so why not take that same approach this time around. We need something to keep in our back pocket for the future, we can't just rely on free agency when the best FA target out there is Kevin love.
I know it's easier said then done but some of these rookies have as much if not more raw talent then Kobe did coming into league, but we all know its what's in between the ears that makes Kobe great. Ah we'll see

Indeed. Last season's rollercoaster took some weeks out of my life expectancy. For sure. Stressed the crap out of me.

It's much easier to deal with a low expectation sucky team than a high expectation sucky team...
Getting swept by Dallas in Phil's last season was way more frustrating. Then the Dwightmare Whistle-Stop tour was a killer.

It hurt more cause we looked so promising after the All-star break in 2011
