I think we all agree that it was a mistake to draft Ves with the 6th pick...but at this point we have to deal with the hand we've been dealt and hope that Witt and Co. figure out a way to get some kind of contribution from Jan. I've agree with posters like CCJ who insistthat there's a role for Ves...especially given his size, length, athleticism and bball IQ.

Let's not get carried away. He is getting badly outplayed by Afflalo. Even CJ Miles is putting up better per minute numbers.

context - he sat quite a bit of the first Q when he normally plays after
that phantom foul on the breakaway.

Say what you want about Brewers offense. He was trying really hard to
stick to Beal in the 2nd half. Beal still got 25 (in 3 Qs). I think this 20 yo kid
might have a future in this league.

didn't like that shot either. Thank gawd it went in.

Nivek might disagree but we arguably won this game by
going 15-15 at the line while MIN shot something like 16-24.
We were due to get better from there but it was a timely
improvement.

I hated the shot as well but I love the "big balls" Wall showed by stepping up and taking the shot...despite how badly he had shot to that point.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't make.

The shot was open and he took it. As much as I hated the shot, it speaks to his confidence.

Nice to see that he didn't go into a shell despite the poor shooting night he had. Played an excellent game otherwise.

From his defense to his passing, just a great performance.

When I heard that stat last night my jaw dropped. That's how you have a positive impact even when your shot is not falling.

It was good to see Temple, Booker and Ves use their defense, athleticism and energy to contribute to last night's win. With his length and activity, Ves has the ability to create a lot of second and third offensive opportunities for the Zards.

With that last game, Ves just jumped over Gortat for TRB/36 with 10.5 vs 10.3
He also leads the team in steals/36 with 3.3 Trevor A is 2nd with 2.2
Also leads the team in DRtg at 98 and has an ORtg of 119 USG of only 9.4 which is lowest on the team

Now I have no idea where his ORtg settles in at, but that other stuff sound like VesBall

All of this is on very small sample size of course. He only played 65 total minutes. But he has looked good out there. Energy is there. Confidence is rising. I saw him locate Love late in the game and ran right at him and put a body on his to box him out. And he did. It was inspiring to see Ves do something like that. Specially on Love.

I think the rebounds and steal are numbers he might be able to maintain. He has to size, athleticism and body to do that. The pick and roll plays should be there also. Ves could always play that kind of a game. Just not sure that was anything the team focused on or if they had the players to get him the ball. I think adding Gortat has helped Wall and the team focus on that kind of offense more and that is helping them spot Ves the same way. And that plays into things Nene can do also either by being the finisher, or a passer.

Good stuff.

Wall has gotta start shooting better, but at least he's putting up 10 dimes a game. Helps to play with a lethal shooter.

Whats even more impressive about Beal is that ... He is only 20 years old.

Vesely was a nice spark off the bench, but he was hardly POTG. Let's not overlook the 2 turnovers and 4 fouls in just 19 minutes.

also one has to question if we would have remained perfect at the FT line
if Ves had had any attempts. Actually, it's not even a question...

You're right, I would disagree. :)

Wizards "won" two of the four factors, but they won the most important one: efg. The team with the better efg wins ~80% of the time.

not everyone understands the game as well as you do mr B

fwiw, what was the delta in eFG? Guessing that when the delta
is low, other usually less important factors can ultimately be
difference makers.

edit to add - on further reflection, since we shot so well from 3,
our eFG probably was significantly higher.

The efg differential was decent size.

Here's the 4-factor breakdown:

Code: Select all

FACTOR  WAS     MIN
efg     0.524   0.494
tov%    10.7%   12.0%
orb%    18.9%   26.1%
ft/fga  0.176   0.188

Someone, somewhere mentioned the possibility of Vesely for player of the game. I would actually support that. In 19 minutes, he scored 8 points on 4 shots, had 6 rebounds (3 offensive -- which was one less than the rest of his teammates combined), and he had two steals and a block. He did have two turnovers and four fouls, but even with those turnovers and fouls it was a productive and efficient night for Vesely.

Stat your heart out Jim.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/box ... 90WAS.html

They made 1 more FT and 3 more 3's than we did. The difference in efg (49.4 TWolves and 52.4 Wizards) was slight but keep in mind:

a) we only won by 4
b) Wall was sandbagging the team with his 29.4 [e]fg%
c) efg doesn't take ft shooting into account.

If you take TS% into account, the delta looks much better. Wiz (.568) Wolves (0.523). Note... still only won by 4.
