Yet another Boston/Detroit trade

Post#1 » by GSR121 » Fri Nov 22, 2013 5:58 am

I know the subject has been beat to death but with both teams heading in different directions (Boston tanking/Detroit trying to make playoffs) how about this.

Detroit out: C.V., Monroe, Stuckey , and Jennings.

Boston out: Green, Rondo, Wallace, and Faverani.

Why for Detroit: Jennings and Rondo are just about even value with a slight edge in Rondo's favor, Monroe is better than Green due to age, position, and potential but it is not a huge gap. Stuckey and C.V. are exp. contracts that don't fit here. Faverani is looking to be a good backup center prospect. Wallace will be included in ANY trade involving Rondo period. It is a gamble in that Rondo is an unknown injury wise. But if it takes him longer than expected to come back we end up in the lotto and potentially keep our pick, if not, we make playoffs.

Why for Boston: This depends on if Boston is looking to tank hard. if so this is the type of deal that can help in that department and still "look" like they are trying to improve. The front office can spin the story as trying to get younger, the old "by the time we are competitive again Green and Rondo will be to old for our core" and "this is a trade for our future" ect...

Detroit becomes:

PG: Rondo, Siva, Bynum

SG: KCP, Billups, Singler

SF: Green, Wallace, Datome, Jerebko

PF: Smith, Harrellson, Datome, Mitchell

C; Drummond, Faverani, Harrellson, Mitchell

Monroe >>>>> Green.

And who the f--k is Faverani and will we even know he was ever in the NBA two years from now?

And we will not take back Wallace's contract. I agree, Ainge will make them go together and he will probably get that deal from somebody. But Green and Rondo are not worth taking his contract. Maybe, maybe I'd think about it without Monroe - so Green, Rondo and Wallace for Jennings and exprirings.

Faverani is actually a quite promising rookie, could be a solid 3rd big.

I would look for Monroe+Expirings for Rondo and Green without GWall

Faverani is a Rookie center that started for them at the beginning of the season he looked good but needs some time to adjust to the NBA game.

I don't think Jennings and the expiring deals are enough to get it done. But I also think we will loose Monroe at the end of the season any way. I have a feeling he is going to get a max contract offer and I do not think he is worth it and the Pistons should not match it. So I was looking to get something in return. I just do not believe Monroe, Smith, and Drummond experiment is going to work. All three are best when playing down low and none of them can guard a true SF on the perimeter. One of the three either needs to get traded or Monroe needs to come off the bench. If we do this, it makes the team better in terms of match ups and spacing, but Monroe will not be happy. Either way we need a Small Forward who can shoot the three and defend the opposing SF.

As much as I didn't like the trade, I absolutely agree with this. "The Experiment" doesn't look promising at the moment and I agree we need a 3D SF.

We will match any Monroe offer in my opinion. He's just too good of a young big.

Drummond isn't going anywhere.

Looking at JSmooth. Like the attitude, but he's not a good fit. So I think he's who should be traded. We could get a much lesser talent but someone who can play on the perimeter. I think this will launch a new thread... :-)

Not a huge Rondo fan. If that happened, you would HAVE to get lights out shooters on the wing, and a 4 who can hit the mid-range jumper.

But, I like how it immediately removes Jennings from the team.

I'd rather have Jennings on my roster than the corpse of Gerald Wallace. This deal is just bad for us.

That actually makes Detroit worse. They lose cap space they would have free this summer and get stuck with Wallaces contract. Anyways, interesting trade but I would rather have an arguably All-Star caliber big man with Jennings than Rondo/Green/Wallace.

Not enough value for Rondo alone, let alone with Green.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

This is such a lame offer for Boston. The only player with positive trade value in this offer is Monroe, who is going to be overpaid next summer. Why would Boston give up their franchise player who has proven himself in big games for Monroe? Brandon Jenning is the point guard for Pistons for the next 3 years. Just get over it.

After seeing Rose out with his RIGHT knees this time (since you put more pressure to your non-injured knee) I don't know if I do it for Rondo on that front.

Injuries can come and go at anytime, so I'd rather not take the risk on anymore ACL injured players. And plus we don't know if he'll be the same player that he was. He's a complete unknown on the trade front right now and I think that's too risky to trade our big man for.

Of course Boston does this offer. I wouldn't. We don't even know what Rondo will return or how effective he is without 2-3 GOAT players.

What is everyones obsession with Rondo? Has everyone forgotten that he is injured? How is this never addressed when assessing these trade deals?

WTF?

Also, what happened with Jennings all of a sudden that everyone hates him? He's averaging almost the exact same amount of assists, as Billups did his best year(8.4 vs 8.6).

Jennings is only 24, and guess where Billups was at age 24? Being a draft bust in Minnie still. His shooting could use work, but Billups at 24 was utter **** as well.

I wouldn't move Jennings right now, for anything. I want to see what he can become, because everytime we have a PG, that gets a lot of assists we end up with a title.

Boston would not laugh at this offer, they would do it in a damn second, because Rondo is INJURED and without all the big name talent, who knows what he will be like. They are not stupid.

We just created this team, and are going to roll with it for at least a year, so get used to it. We need better shooting from our guards, and better defensive coaching from our coach, and this team will get a lot better.

I agree with you there. I will also go one step further in that Jennings is the superior offensive player. His offense is something we need. Rondo's assist won't be good here because of our lack of shooters. I think we should just move on. I am ok with trading Monroe but not to bring in Rondo. I personally feel the young building blocks now are Drummond, Jennings, and Caldwell-Pope.

BOS fan here, think this trade's unlikely. Healthy Rondo is light years better than Jennings, in my opinion.. Jennings can light it up on his good nights, but Rondo's a smarter player and a much better court general- and an excellent defender. We dump Wallace and Green's contracts, but Jennings has a bad deal, and Monroe's going to get paid next year, so there are no real cap savings.. Faverani is valuable to us and not really worth it as a throw-in.

We don't really see Rondo as a question mark- he's recovering well. Admittedly, anything can happen, but no one (management, doctors, Rondo, rumor mill) has talked like his career is done. His contract is short and reasonable enough that we're not going to move him now just to lose the risk of being stuck with an injured player.

From our perspective, I could see Green/Faverani for Monroe/expiring.. A healthy Rondo to Detroit would take a near superstar ransom- probably unfair, but Ainge sets a notoriously high price for players he's not desperate to deal. Either Drummond/expirings for Rondo/Wallace or a multi-team deal with Monroe going elsewhere, maybe Monroe to MEM and Gasol to BOS.
