Looking back, impressive drafting by Danny Ferry

Post#1 » by fart » Fri Nov 22, 2013 9:25 pm

So I was thinking about this the other day. Danny Ferry never had an high lottery picks during his time with the Cavs, He only had late firsts and 2nd rounders to work with. Lets reflect on some of the players he drafted in the 2nd round and end of the first round.

Daniel Gibson
Shannon Brown
JJ Hickson
Danny Green

late in the first and into the 2nd round, you would be lucky to find a role player. lets start with daniel gibson, drafted in the 2nd round. Gibson erupted in the 2007 ECF and helped the Cavs reach the finals, then he went on to become a servicable spot up shooter off the bench for a few years. I don't think he is signed by a team this year, but I could see someone signing him for the playoffs later in the season since teams always need shooters. Shannon Brown; once traded to the Lakers he became a key part of their bench during their championship runs and became a good NBA role player. JJ Hickson; became a double-double machine last year in portland and is currently helping the Nuggets, He could start on many teams. Danny Green; Since going to the Spurs, he has become one of the best two way role players in the league, great defender and lights out shooter, it even looked like he could possibly win the finals MVP at one point in the Spurs/Heat series. Most of these picks did not find success in the NBA until they left the Cavs, but that is on Mike Brown for not developing them, not Danny Ferry, since the talent was obviously there. I just find it interesting the he was able to hit on so many late picks and draft players that actually contribute to their NBA teams.

Brown and Gibson are disappointments. Green is a product of the Spurs. Hickson is the only decent player that the Cavs drafted and developed.

That is an understatement, neither are even in the league.

Is there anyone on this team between the age of 25-32 that the Cavaliers drafted?
That says a lot about several of our regimes.

I don't think Gibson is a disappointment he was drafted mid second round and hit 578 3s in his time here. He was a very solid pick alot of second round picks don't ever even make it into a rotation. Gibson was contributing on a finals team as a rookie.

that's like you saying Kelly Holcomb was a solid player. Which you wouldn't.
