Throwback thread: How good was tayshaun prince

A lot of opinions on whether he was underrated because of his recent struggles since the pistons stopped making the playoffs, or overrated based on the fact that he helped win the title in 04 and almost in 05.

How good of a player was he at his prime? ( didnt really peak as a player; in that way he was similiar to reggie miller ironically :grin:

) and what type of player could equal his production over the pistons six year ecf run span?

He was better than Singler but worse or at least less aggressive than Batum, so somewhere in the middle lol.

He's an average point forward. A lesser version of Andre Iguodala with less athleticism but perhaps a little more heart

Prime Prince was better than Batum.

Yeah I wonder what his actual abilities were greater if he was a no 2 option. He was great at just showing up and doing his job but some nights he would score mid 20's while someone was injured or hurt and you would wonder is this guy a lot better but is content to provide quality offense at a medium rate and play all nba defense on the end

^ But as members of that '04 Championship team left or aged, and they tried to make him more of a focal point of the offense, he fell short. Part of that could have been the overall degeneration of the team, and part of that (a large part, in fact!) could have been the lousy coaches we had and that time. Still, I just don't think he could have ever been a #2 option night-in and night-out. In his prime, Tay was the CONSUMMATE role-playing, complimentary-starter, "glue guy" that every championship team needs.

This exactly,I remember in those runs when he got the ball I was always pretty confident that he would make the right play or hit his shot,he was 1 of the most calmed and poised player Ive ever seen.
