Kobe agrees to 2 year extension - 2 yrs/$48.5 mill

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Kobe Bryant to a two-year contract extension, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

“This is a very happy day for Lakers fans and for the Lakers organization,” said Kupchak. “We’ve said all along that our priority and hope was to have Kobe finish his career as a Laker, and this should ensure that that happens. To play 20 years in the NBA, and to do so with the same team, is unprecedented, and quite an accomplishment. Most importantly however, it assures us that one of the best players in the world will remain a Laker, bringing us excellent play and excitement for years to come.”

Why now when you have a whole year and offseason to evaluate where pieces fall and how he returns from injury?

Good news for the simple fact that he won't retire and we get to see 3 more seasons out of Kobe

Now I do hope that **** took a discount deal

Just a loyalty thing.. it's a good move for the franchise. Now this loyalty thing becomes an issue if he signs for $20 mill a year though in my opinion LOL.

I just saw this on the ESPN bottom line and wondered if the LAL board knew the details as far as financial terms. Stephen A says its probably 2yrs 40 mil but of course I take his word with a grain of salt sometimes.

We all want Kobe to retire as a laker but the quetion is how much? :(

They can sign him in the offseason when he is re-evaluated but I guess the team is just afraid of losing him.
Lets go Lakers!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

That's a good question... Makes me think trade, but I guess we'll have to see how much he signed for.

They're talking about it on First Take now.

Steven A says he' thinks in the 20M/yr range... Seems high to me.

Well that's unfortunate... Guess the 2014 or 2015 Free Agent class didn't look that promising.

My guess is, Gasol will have to take a significant paycut to stay in Los Angeles, and this Kobe deal makes me feel as if they are exploring ways to rid themselves of Nash.
