GT: Pelicans vs. Spurs

Post#1 » by Nolan » Mon Nov 25, 2013 1:39 am

When: 8:30 PM ET, November 25, 2013
Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

The Pelicans made a couple big moves this offseason adding Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans and so far they've had mixed results with those additions. But this is a dangerous team, Anthony Davis has been unstoppable through 12 games and we have to watch out for him.

Go Spurs!!

Yeah, I wanna see Anthony Davis. I haven't gotten the chance to watch a Pelicans game so far but Anthony Davis is putting up Kevin Garnett like numbers. 3 blocks, 2 steals, 11+ boards, along with 20 ppg. Just insane.

One thing to keep an eye on is points in the paint for us. Parker vs Davis. If Parker can get to the lane and finish, we'll win this game. But if Anthony Davis is swatting everything and just making it hard for us to score inside, then we'll probably lose.

Money on us winning though.

Davis will get his but Parker and the shooters are gonna murder the Pels IMO.

Damn, I missed the game. My prediction strategy worked though! 19 point win!

I see from the stats it looked like a big game from the bench and we held Anthony Davis in check. How was it?

We made our run in the 2nd Q. Manu was on fire. Mills hit some tough shots. Even Ayres did something!

Davis only seemed to make an impact defensively.

First time watching Anthony Davis this year... Not impressed.

Do they even run any plays for Davis? The only thing that stands out is his defense. Offensively, he's just athletic. That's it. First possession of the game and he hit a long jumper. Good form. Swish. Yet, that's all he can do right now. He's Ibaka-like offensively. Doesn't have a post game. He needs someone to create an open shot for him offensively.

Pelicans are 100% perimeter oriented. Even down to the bigs. Jason Smith is a jumpshooter and he takes way too many shots for a role player IMO on this game. Ryan Anderson, Tyreke, Jrue, Eric Gordon.. all perimeter guys.

I don't think you can judge Davis off one game against us. He's having a great year, and you can see even in the SA game that he's got serious game.

They didn't go to him much in that game, but I generally think they've done the right thing with him: surround him with shooters like they did with Howard when he was in Orlando. AD sucks in the D and leaves the perimeter wide open. We're set up defensively to limit that, which is why he looked pedestrian against us.

But, in my mind at least, he's a fantastic player and will be looked upon as a top 5 player within the next half-decade (barring significant injury).

No, this isn't like Dwight's Orlando teams where you pick your poison between Dwight going off or make their perimeter guys beat us. That Orlando team actually runs their offense through Dwight and involve Dwight in P&R situations with Hedo.

The problem "offensively" with this current Anthony Davis is his inability to create his own shots. This is exactly what Pau said about Anthony Davis. He's just athletic. And that can't be more true. Where Davis seems to be able to get his points a lot on is from P&R plays because he's got great hands and that's where he can overwhelm players with his athleticism. But Monty Williams runs a lot of motion offenses that sets Davis and Jason Smith at the elbow and they create from there.

I'm not saying Anthony Davis couldn't do **** offensively. His P&R ability is still very good and he's got a midrange jumper. With a PG that can get him the ball, he'll look like Amare Stoudamire without the power dunks. I don't think you can argue his inability to create his own shots right now. He's very much dependent on guys getting him the ball to get his points as opposed to him creating shots for other guys.

Return to San Antonio Spurs
