NO TRADES BEFORE MIDSEASON

Post#1 » by eddh0713 » Sat Nov 23, 2013 7:31 pm

Just my 2 cents.
We have eight new players.
We have almost an entirely new coaching staff.
Preseason and early season injuries are preventing development of a regular rotation.
Bringing in new players right now would just slow down the process of coming together as a team even more.
It is going to take at least half a season for these players to become a TEAM.
It is amazing to me that without any regular rotation they have been in almost every game.
They will DEFINITELY be better in the second half of the season.
THEN it MIGHT be time to look to see if we need any more changes.
I, for one, think we have the possibility of this developing into a REALLY good team.
Just my 2 cents.

We need to trade eddh0713 to another board IMMEDIATELY! This type of rational, reasoned, sensible writing has no place here! Our board is built upon over-reaction and hyperbole! He's clearly not a "fit" here, so it's time to ship him elsewhere; after all, he's already had a full 10 posts to figure things out and get with the program, so it's safe to declare him a bust!

I say we trade eddh0713 to the Raptors' Message Board for one of their crazy Canadian posters and a case of Labatt Blue.

This wont be a popular opinion, but what should be done is keep the team competitive until the last minute and TANK.We could get our sf in the draft, keep moose or dont, trade cv/stuckey or dont and use the money coming off the books.

I get tanking isnt the greatest thing for a franchise, but with the players we already have and our draft pick (parker, wiggins, smart, randle, etc) we would bounce right back next year even better,we would also have 1 year under our belts for the team to mesh.

I think IF dumars dosent make any trades and we are still playing like we are, then why not ?

Why not?

Because when Parker or Wiggins or Exum are drafted Joe will be watching the draft from his living room and someone else will be getting the credit for the pick.

Besides with our luck we will get the 8th pick and then the 9th place team will win a top3 pick and then it goes to MJ.

I'm confused. Is your point that it's good to make precipitous early trades, or that you find those who urge a patient, careful approach to further team changes offensively irrational? What has the Billups/Iverson trade to do with the current issues facing the Pistons, and how does it give guidance as to how the team should proceed regarding personnel moves for the remainder of this season? I thought eddh made some pretty good points, but then I'm of a deliberate nature and therefore more open to this kind of counsel. FYI, I didn't like the Billups/Iverson trade either. :D

I think the team can be pretty decent with the current roster given time, the problem is, to keep the current roster we will have to sign Monroe to the max or close to it, that's why I think we have to make moves sooner rather then later.

Newsflash: "taking the patient approach" is just as much an armchair-GM thing for bored people as fan-boy trades.

I don't like thinking of trades. But I think of them and then I don't like not posting them. So what? It doesn't help that I see other fans with an idea for Big Baby or where we give up a shooter (or 2) and get none back. That just makes me want to post my idea more.

You can make good points about patience and determining players' values, but the flipside is that our record for early season games counts just as much as later on. And some (many? most?) of us have disliked aspects of the roster since before the pre-season and we are being proven right on some things.

But let's not trade Darko due to patience. Or Amir/Maxiell due to them having good games. Or Ben Gordon due to him just being signed and us needing a go-to scorer. Don't trade Stuckey for a lotto pick either, bcuz he pwned Jameer Nelson.

It's all fun here. Or obsession. Or delusion. But we're all posting crap on a fan board, so yea.

since Billups/Iverson trade, people here keep telling us to stay patient. somehow, to say to stay patient makes you rational.

We should have done this the past several seasons. Instead we win a bunch of games in March and April vs. teams resting starters for the playoffs and teams that are actually tanking.

Huh? Now you're just making stuff up. I assume you read this board? Patience is in short supply.

Yes. I was thinking about making a Patience Open Thread. Since we have so many trade/blow it up threads.

Edit:
Discussion Topics May Include:
-Not blowing up the team.
-Not giving up after 13 games
-Why KCP is not a DUD
-How the team can improve without trading everyone, what strides do you look for from game to game.
-Etc.

I'm not giving love for a win over a poorly coached Nets team. If they had a real coach, we'd probably lose. Pistons have a long way to go. I am willing to make a move if it improves the roster.

The ironic thing is NBA Teams NEVER make as many moves as fans think they do or should do. Most teams really just add a few role players as they develop their team over a few seasons. This is the approach I expect Joe D. to take with this year being the exception with Stucks/CV's expiring contracts. Anyways, I expect Joe to target a starting caliber SG next offseason.

@OP - I think it's kind of obvious, no?

Regardless of how much some fans complain(myself included), this team still needs some time to gel. It is as simple as that. If things don't work out by the deadline, then sure...make trades to get better or rebuild.

The way Stuckey is playing now, I doubt he gets traded. Don't think anyone will bite on CV. Thus, I have to say no.
