Do we really want to trade away Asik?

Hence is the trend we are seeing. After we got Dwight Howard, trade Asik starts to become the common topic for the Rocket fans.

However, do we want to really trade away Asik? Asik is very young and continues to learn and has absolutely the right attitude to work hard and play team basketball. I actually really miss those thunderous dunks he displayed last season.

Dwight Howard so far, other than the one spectacular offensive game, really has shown us nothing other than highlight alley-op dunks and other flashy dunks and very inconsistent hook shots. Basically, he does not look like a reliable offensive players and turns the ball over too many times and often times can't just score the points against many strong and well built centers. He relied heavily on his athleticism when he first started playing ball, but he's been in the league for like 9 years and still could not develop a post game.

I just don't see the value of Dwight being that much greater than Asik if not less. Do we really want to lose a hard-nose young guy in Asik and trust our future center position in an aging Howard? We could also argue that he could be helping us to contend for a championship right now where Asik is not ready. But does it really look like he could help us more than Asik could?

depend who we are trading for
if we are getting lebron or durant
i will trade howard or harden too

at this stage
there is no one we can trade that really can help us other than asik himself playing backup center

Dwight is better than Asik...and it's not really close. And I hate DH.

But Asik is like a poor man's DH, really...without ANY of the shot blocking abilities.

The big difference is that Asik plays within his means. DH wants to be a superstar...and he just ain't.

Prime DH carried the Magic to the NBA finals. I would say that qualifies him as a superstar. However, Dwight lost some explosiveness after back surgery.

Asik wants to be traded because his next contract has the potential to be 12 mil/year. He should and will get that if he is a starter. Asik has the talent to be a starter. The Rockets are holding him back. Asik isn't about winning championships, he can be like that when he is 32 years old.

These are the harsh realities.

I wouldn't trade Asik unless we got some major value. He's not really that close to Howard as a player tbh, but his impact off the bench will be great as long as he plays with 100% effort.

Yes, it's now a question of for how much. This is deep draft year. Asik will mostly be traded for a player and not a first round pick.

asik is better post defender
problem is he can't guard those faster than him
randolph is slower now and aldridge is not as strong as asik
that's why he can guard those without problem

Asik looks happy again even when Beverly did the flying bump off him he was smiling. Maybe he's OK coming off the bench again for a year. Good that Dwight was encouraging him too. I say keep.

If it were a perfect world i wish we got lamarcus aldridge instead of dwight howard.

Asik and aldridge would be a beast pairing. It would definitely work. You would have leftover money for a deeper bench.

However, if T-jones can continue to perform like this i don't care at all. Dwight and T-jones rock.

I say Keep Asik, as long as he wants to be here. Locker room's get toxic enough as it is. If he continues to want to leave, trade him.

Asik is a good insurance policy for Howard. If Howard gets injured, we can do like we are with Harden, rest, no hurry to come back.

Asik wants a trade, the question is, do the Rockets really want to pay that much money for a bench player. The same goes for Lin.

I like the team the way it is, although I think Casspi is too slow at times and I've seen him blatantly ignore calls especially from Lin.

My only issue is when a guy is hot the team doesnt feed the ball to the hottest guy all the time. You can see them mentally force the ball to Harden and Howard at times, especially toward the end of a quarter or in the 4th.

When the ball gets sticky or it turns into useless ISO's I find it less appealing.

I don't want to watch the knicks part 2.

I'd rather not trade him considering how well Jones is playing and the depth he brings to the Rockets.

I see no urgent need to fill any slots on the Rockets roster with Casspi playing well and Garcia still giving something. Lin has proven he can back the 1 and 2. Brooks has show something and Brewer is still on the bench.

I say keep him so long as he understands his role.

How easy will it be to trade Asik next year, when he's costing $15 million on an expiring contract, especially if his benefit as an expiring is $8.6 million? And, with a $12.5 million cap hold, you'll have to renounce him if you want to go after a major FA like Love or Aldridge. Unless you love this team for the next 2 years (no FA), you'll have to trade Asik soon.
