Was Brandon Jennings Lying?

Post#1 » by gordito » Thu Nov 28, 2013 2:29 pm

Was Brandon Jennings lying when he said he was going to stop taking bad shots? I haven't watched the Pistons at all this year, but went to his ESPN page to check out how he was doing, and it looks like the same old BJ...just a little bit worse.

I'm wondering whether it's bad luck and his shot just isn't falling or if he's still taking bad shots. Thoughts?

Well, if you look at his past performances, he's ever so slightly above average on shooting the 3 and he's really bad at finishing at the rim, I think it was like sub 40% inside which is really bad for a supposed top PG prospect at the time.

It honestly boils down to shot selection, he has been slightly smarter than the past since he actually has people to pass to now. He does have those frequent long 2's, chucking 3's off-balance with a fresh clock situations though.

He seems to be taking a lot of bad shots still. and his inability to finish at the rim makes it even worse.

Brandon Jennings has the IQ of a mentally challenged goldfish.

it's the start the season and the pistons need time to gel, that's probably why he was taking so many shots. in the last three games he's taking 11 shots a game and distributing the ball nicely so I wouldn't jump the gun and say he was lying.

Jennings has not been the problem. Our offense is top 10. The defense is having issues.

He was improving and then had that big 2nd half and was in the zone. Afterwards he was a junkie chasing that high for a few games. The last few games hes going back to trying to be more of a PG. I think Cheeks is going to be the best thing for him. I would expect improvement from him through out the season but hes going to have setbacks on this path.

Exactly!
This is what happened with the Lakers at the beginning of last year, everyone was blaming the Princeton offense for their troubles but their offense was completely fine.
It was their defense that was terrible, so they fired Mike Brown and hired Mike D'antoni...

'i have not watched a game this season, but im going to comment on his shot selection'........

wat.

jennings has been fine. hes been getting 8 assists a game, and has had 14,10,13 the last 3 games. the whole offense has been fine. jennings is going to take shots, but he can make them, and his scoring is important to this offense. i dont know how anyone can come close to the conclusion that jennings is the one that needs to be better.

Jennings DOES need to get better- if you think our offense is fine (which IMO its not) then thats all fine and good but Jennings right now is shooting 37% from the field on 15 attempts which is dreadful. He gets more efficient and we may win a few more games because of our offense even with our crappy defense.

Right now, Jennings has looked good as a facilitator but he still needs to work on his shot selection. Smith and Jennings kill us offensively- both take more shots than they should at the expense of our far more efficient scorers- Monroe and Drummond.

Once a chucker, always a chucker. He will always take too many bad shots, jack up 3's early in the shot clock and try to force dumb passes for an assist, versus a smart perimeter pass.

You guys seriously think a 40 percent career shooter is somehow going to miraculously get much better?

His inability to use his right hand kills his game.

I think BJ's actually trying to adapt his game -- not always successfully, but I actually think he's going to be a good signing overall.

Smoove, however, has not changed one bit, and he's playing out of position. Ugh.

He racks up a lot of assists and at sometimes takes unjustifiable shots.

When he's on the floor I feel the bigs aren't involved enough. I always have felt he often sets up a two man type of attack in half-court and most of the players on offense are not involved enough. That may not be his fault, and may be a chemistry thing. But it doesn't look like the team or Jennings is calling great plays often. That or the plays are breaking down.

Cheeks basically says Jennings has to change his entire game.
