Drummond Has Hurt His Team More Than Helped This Season
according to ESPN
This is about fit. Drummond has been terrifically efficient, and at times dominant. However, Detroit has been nearly 10 points per 100 possessions worse with Drummond on the floor despite his 21.5 PER. Josh Smith has struggled at the 3 position, but he has played well at 4. Rather than force a big lineup that doesn't work, Maurice Cheeks may be best served by splitting his big-man minutes three ways between Drummond, Smith and Greg Monroe. This would be an expansion of the substitution pattern Cheeks has already been using.
Getting an extra shooter on the floor would help Detroit get off to better starts, and bringing Drummond off the bench gives him more run in a featured offensive role. There is no reason why all three big men can't continue to average 33-to-35 minutes even if they aren't all in the starting lineup.

This board is too sensitive, Drummond has been good but not good enough. He's not our biggest problem- no doubt about that, but he was a better defensive player last season- that much is obvious

Re: Drummond Has Hurt His Team More Than Helped This Season
i think a lot has to do with Cheeks\ bad rotations.
For example, we never see Monroe and Dre on the court together with shooters. That seems like a logical line up to use where monroe can work out of the post and dre can be a finisher.
Stuckey / Singler (KCP) / Gigi / Monroe / Drummond seems like a line up that could work, but we haven't seen that once.

This is actually not true. At all. He was being asked to stay home and matchup against the backup center. Now he's asked to be a true anchor. The problem is this entire board has sensationalized him so much, he's not living up to ridiculous DPOY expectations.

Re: Drummond Has Hurt His Team More Than Helped This Season
the one thing I don't see Drummond doing is contesting shots at the rim. even in the bulls game yesterday there were a few times when he was pretty much beside the rim when a guard was driving and just watched them go up, didn't even make a move. was a little frustrating to be honest.

That's a good point, he is matching up against the best of the best now. Still, I don't think Drummond has been giving 100% effort on defensive. I see him just give up layups too frequently...whether that is simply due to fatigue or indecisiveness, I don't know. But it has to change. And he's averaging less than half the blocks per 36 that he did last year. That's terrible. He needs to protect the paint. No reason he shouldn't be at 3 blocks per game with his athleticism, length and timing.

His limited minutes last year allowed him to be more agressive that much is clear. Drummond learning curve and aggressiveness play are potentials to foul trouble as well as lengthy stretches of playing time. He needs time to adapt his length in minutes, bodily strength (shaq like), and well he is young. Give him a few years and he will be bomb

He's a second year player, that can even legally buy a beer.
This was supposed to be a rebuilding team that allowed him to make mistakes and develop a feel for the game. Dumars was more concerned about his job than the natural development of the team's young players and hijacked his development time, strapping him with a couple chuckers and demanding a playoff appearance.

Drummond is a bad fit only because the Pistons foolishly went out and signed Josh Smith to play SF. Get rid of J-Smoove ASAP and Dre suddenly fits.

I'd rather trade Monroe and move Smith to the PF position. Monroe's cheaper contract means that we can go out and get younger/cheaper SFs more easily than if we were trying to trade Smith. Not to mention that a Smith/Drummond frontcourt should provide much more defense and shot blocking than a Monroe/Drummond frontcourt. I like Monroe, but I'd rather have the improved defense that Smith offers.

Harrison Barnes + Draymond Green + Speights
for
Monroe + Singler
Jennings - Stuckey - Barnes - Smith - Drummond
w Billups, KCP, Green, Mitchell, Speights off the bench

Cant believe im even entertaining this but I have a few mins..
You would actually rather trade a 22 year old near All Star big man with an extremely high bball IQ w/ a very good back to the basket game over a 27 year old, low bball IQ PF who refuses to play w/ his back to the basket who gives you nothing outside of 5 feet yet loves to shoot as much as he can outside of 5 feet?

I don't think Monroe's BBIQ is extremely high at all, I'd say it's average. He seems like a less talented Al Jefferson to me. Once he gets the ball and decides to make a move he isn't going to pass it. Al Jefferson is the same except with a better mid-range jumper and more efficient around the hoop, and he blocks shots. I don't think Smith is as at creating offense for himself offensively, but defensively he's far superior to Monroe. You can't argue that. Monroe's been better defensively this year, but Smith is still the far better defensive player (at PF). Not to mention that for his career Smith has put up the same PPG as Monroe, so even though Moose is better at creating his shot I'm not sure he's actually "better" offensively. So yeah, I'd trade our 22 year old PF who provides the same offense and less defense than Smith who's currently playing out of position.
