And I'm not even gonna get into running the ball up the middle twice when we needed 1 single yard to basically seal the game in the 4th. That was straight up Lovie Smith crap right there.

The Bears went scoreless for the last 35 minutes of the game. On FIVE different possessions in that time they had 1st down at the 50 or in Vikings territory and came up empty.

I honestly thought he was trying to goad the Vikings into burning their timeout and then put the offense back in. I've never seen a team kick a 46 yard field goal on second down when there is ample time left. Has anyone seen that before?

Never in the NFL. Maybe thats a Canadian thing

If cutler starts the rest of the season we can still go 10-6. We play some really bad defenses. The problem is I don't think we can make the playoffs with a 10-6 record (again) I think the West and south will both have two teams in the playoff at this point unless both the 49ers and Cardinals collapse. If we win out we'd have the tie breaker with both the Cowboys and Eagles and they play each other so we'd end up with a better record than one of them. I don't see either the Saints or Panthers missing the playoffs.

Mark Trestman is getting on my last nerve, his decision making at the most critical moments is absurd!!!!! Its like he loves to out think the game and tries to impress with his analytics, then boom blows up in his face. Pop Warner coaches could have won the game today.
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?
Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong.
KC: You were asked that question at the news conference announcing Thibodeau's dismissal and you answered yes

Yeah you can kick on 2nd down if you are inside the 40....that miss would be on the kicker then. 47 is just a huge risk for 2nd down.

But really I put this on the defense. We shouldn't have even been close to this point.

Funny thing is this team was build on the heels of a 10-6 season, tons of cap room and championship aspiration. Somehow they made the team worse.
The defense is truly the worst but ive been harping on that since week 1 basically when they were trotting out done for dj williams.

Really bad job by the gm, maybe he should get the axe. but then theres always the gm needs his coach deal so idk but there should be some accountability somewhere. Turner is an easy scapegoat but how about the guys who hired him? Decamillis whos units penalties killed us last year.
We could do the lovie and angelo route and clean house on assistants , but that wasnt the answer.

With this lovie may have been superbowl bound. We went 10-6 last season with no TE. Any bum off the street could have outproduced davis. The gm decided not to sign anyone.
Trestman despite his bonehead calls has proved himself at least offensively because we are ranked higher than most bears teams ive ever watched and im 29.

It's hard to blame the defense when the offense scored zero points on their last six possessions. There were tons of opportunities to win the game and they just blew every one of them.

If Trestman is making many of his decisions on statistics, as he and Cutler have alluded to, I think his statistics suck. I also thought he was going to put the offense back out there after the Vikings burned a timeout to freeze Gould.

What concerns me the most is Trestman has now made late game decisions that show that he not only doesn't trust his defense, but he doesn't trust his offense as well.

Bottom line though is all of this is for naught. This defense is god awful. The Bears are going absolutely nowhere until it is fixed.

This team is just a mirror image of last year's team. The offense is the best we've had, probably ever. The Bears FO gambled that this defense could hold together for one more season, but the exact opposite happened. Tillman and Peppers fell off completely, Melton, Williams, Briggs and Tillman had (essentially) season ending injuries. The Bears have to essentially rebuild the entire defense. Starting with the line, moving on to the LBs, then the safeties and then the corners. Free agency and draft, here we come!

If people still want to talk about Josh McCown as the starter, I guess they just want to ignore his inability to finish drives in the red zone.

Blame the defense all you want (and it deserves it to an extent), but I can't believe we only put up 20 points on this dumpster fire of a vikings defense.

I just don't get how they don't run the numbers on this. Or model your behavior after a coach that wins (ie Bellichik).

The 4th and 1 is one example in regulation--where the odds might have favored going for it. Even a quick dumb a$$ try to get them to jump--jeez something other than go into your shell immediately.

The 2nd and 7--it has to be the wrong call statistically--I don't need to see tables--it is irrational turtle-osity that ends up being riskier than sane calm --run at least 1 more play; maybe 2. It's like they say the "prevent defense - prevents you from winning". This type of not going for it even if odds-wise it's a smart play is maddening.

Yeah the defense is bad, but we only scored 20 points against almost as equally bad Viking defense.

I can't beleive he called those plays. For an offensive genius he really showed a lack of imagination when the game was on the line.
