Trey Burke is already better than Jennings

Post#1 » by No-Man » Tue Dec 3, 2013 7:38 am

This decision is going to haunt Dumars for years, like Milicic's.
The guy is such an unique leader, phenomenal PG.
And he was there for the Pistons.
What a shame.

I assume you're going on his first good game as a pro last night. Nice work.

Burke, so far, has sucked in summer league, gotten hurt, and has now played 7 NBA games, shooting under 40% from the floor with 3.4 assists/game in about 26 minutes. The only positive stats I see are a decent 3pt stroke and low turnovers, which is exactly what he showed in college.

Burke's ceiling is likely journeyman average point guard, ala Jarrett Jack, althouh Jack is a couple inches taller. I like Trey and want him to succeed, and he's going to work his ass off, but I just don't see any star potential there.

It is amazing the difference a good point guard can make. With a healthy Trey Burke at the helm, the Utah Jazz are starting to make some positive things happen. Case in point: defeating a very good Houston Rockets team 109-103 Monday night. Suddenly Utah has won two consecutive outings and three of the past four games.

Burke started out the season in a suit as a broken finger derailed the start of his rookie campaign. Since his return two weeks ago, he has improved each game out. Two nights after establishing his career-high 20 points versus the Phoenix Suns, Burke eclipsed that against the Rockets with 21.

And not only has the confident point guard improved, but so has the entire team. Facing a formidable Houston squad did not faze the young Jazz team. Utah controlled things for much of the night and managed to counter each Rockets run. When the final buzzer sounded, the Jazz had earned their biggest victory of the young season.

It's early, of course, but the small look we've had so far supports Burke > KCP. If we had the draft to do over, the Burke choice is even more obvious.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

How did I know that someone was going to make a post about Burke after his win over the Linless and Parsonless Rockets who are known as difference makers and take a lot of offensive pressure off Harden. When you're given pretty much the greenlight to do anything with 37 minutes, you're going to fill a decent amount of stats whether it be Burke or Will Bynum.

And no Burke does not > KCP. KCP is a prototypical SG with size and athleticism in a league where SGs are almost an afterthought after PGs, SFs, and PFs. KCP is worth more in the future whereas PGs like Burke are a dime a dozen, we can grab a better PG than Burke anywhere. Lol at the thought of this draft (Considered one of the weakest) to be compared to the draft in 2003, just stop. Dumars not picking Melo/Wade over Milicic isn't even in the same scope as this year's draft, period.

This board is so predictable.

Having the green light to hoist is one thing, doing it efficiently is another...he shot 9/18. Solid stretch of games for Burke.

Jeff Teague is the guy we actually should have pursued. Dude is a beast.

I don't like Burke better than Jennings. BJ puts up double doubles easily, but just has poor shot selection of which he has games where he is a very effective NBA PG. But, I have to agree with the OP, I was not a fan of KCP before the draft thinking he was a 15-20 pic and still feel that Burke is better than KCP at their respective positions. But, players like KCP with their defense are what is needed on teams as good role players. If KCP's ceiling is Tony Allen, I am fine with that.
