Beal is a team guy, if they look really good with him off the bench, he would take on for the team if that ended up being more effective.

Exactly what I was thinking. I like the chemistry of the current starting unit, and Beal can absolutely carry the 2nd unit. Coming off the bench would probably also keep his minutes around 30 IMO. Beal/Porter/Vesely would be the core of the bench, and if we can move any combo of Booker/Seraphin/Singleton for a point guard we'd be in good shape IMO.

Well they did win more then a few games last year with him coming off the bench like that and still getting a good workload. With his leg issue, they will clearly need to monitor his minutes for a while. Maybe something like 20 to 25 until they figure out if he can play without hurting that leg again.

Maybe the leg has something to do with the fact he is still growing. Soft bones? Hopefully that works its way out as he get a little older. He is still only 20

As for cashing in some of the pieces off the bench, yeah. I look forward to seeing what they can pull off. Their are pieces floating around out there that would fit better for what they need.

I was listening to Czabe and Galdi this afternoon and they mentioned Beal is up for a 4/$90M extension. That's a lot of scratch for Beal. More $$ and more years than Walls contract. Maybe a poll should be made for this, but right now I'm on the fence on whether to sign Beal to that contract. Obviously you sign him if he makes the "leap" type of improvements during the season, but let's say he only modestly improves next year? His low hanging fruit advanced stats aren't very impressive to me (someone more stat savvy set me straight if I'm wrong). He hasn't cracked an above average PER once, has always had a low TS% for a shooter, and he doesn't get to the line often enough. From the eyeball test I'm still frustrated with his lack of handles and while his defense is decent, I don't consider him a lock-down defender, and I've had it with his high-volume long-two's love affair. All of this goes without saying he's relatively injury-prone.

I'm sure this is really a non-discussion topic because EG will max him without blinking because that's how he operates, but if Oubre looks like a steal, and Beal doesn't make the leap, I think Washington should gauge his value before committing long-term.
