Drummond Defensive Player of the Year??
If Drummond can stay healthy and finish the season averaging 13 reb, 2 blocks, 2 steals, do you think he is a viable candidate for Defensive Player of the Year?

Hibbert will win. Better record and more blocks.

Valid question. But his numbers are getting pretty sick lately. He certainly has a chance, especially if Pistons keep improving.

Re: Drummond Defensive Player of the Year??
Hibbert's block numbers may decrease as the season goes on
Also Drummond is putting up better stats than Hibbert and shooting 20% higher FG
Hibbert only has a 2 block per game advantage and he is much better at the free throw line
However, unless Drummond starts getting more respect which hopefully these 3 games earned him then he can start getting a few more calls under the hoops and a few less fouls called against him

2 blocks is a lot. That's like saying someone only averages 15 more ppg.

Re: Drummond Defensive Player of the Year??
This is almost certainly Hibbert's year. DPOY is one of those awards where it actually sometimes helps to suck on offense, and while Hibbert doesn't suck, he doesn't use his size very well on that end.
Better team, better record, better blocks, better rep, more name recognition, more experience. Barring injury, it's looking like his award already.

As much as I want it to happen it wouldn't this year :/ Hibbert is there with DeAndre Jordan, Dwight, Gasol, Lebron and Bogut.......I think in his fourth year people will recognize him as the best big man in the game
GO REBELS!!

no, not getting near the blocks this season and defense on the ball still isnt where it needs to be. Wish there was a rebounder award because he'd win that

Re: Drummond Defensive Player of the Year??
as long as the pacers stay as the best defensive team in the league I don't see anyone taking it away from hibbert.
he'll probably get some votes though, as long as the pistons' team defense improves. it's been better lately but still ranks as below average for the year.
PS interesting article on drummond's rebounding: http://statcenter.blogspot.ca/2013/12/t ... Statcenter)

Offensive stats are irrelevant in a Defensive Player of the Year discussion.

Drummond is going to have unreal games, and bad games, and everything in between. Why?

Re: Drummond Defensive Player of the Year??
For those who were saying he's worse defensively, he's technically better across the board statistically according to synergy. His drtg is also the same 99 rating it was last year. And that's all based on the first 19 games, most of which our defense as a team was awful. So as we continue to trend up as a team on that end, expect Drummond's individual ratings to get even better. Right now though, our team defense just isn't good enough for him win DPY. It always goes to the best defender on the best defensive team, which is Hibbert right now. That could change by the end of the year though as the Pacers start to play better offenses.
Aside from the big rebounding and scoring games lately from Drummond, his interior defense has been wonderful too the last few games. He's no longer playing tentative worried about foul trouble. He's just playing all out and if they call it, they call it. That's the approach he needs to keep, because we have the depth up front to where he should be able to play that way. None of our bigs should have to worry about foul trouble when we have so many bigs. That's one of the advantages to having so many, you can play more aggressive inside.

Re: Drummond Defensive Player of the Year??
Drummond Defensive Player of the Year award goes a team that plays defense. Kevin Love is rebound leader but nobody considers him as a DPOY for a reason.
Sorry for my poor english

This. If Hibbert stays healthy, he had the award locked up the first week of the season. Best defender on the best defensive team in the league, that may end up with the best overall record as well.
If Drummond keeps it up, he'll finish top 5 in voting.

Only shows that he's not quite as lazy as Shaq.
