At this rate the Hawks will be able to nab someone like Dante Exum or Julius Randle with the Nets pick.

Along with AK47, DWill and Lopez all missing time with injuries, they could actually be a good team with everyone healthy still.

Idk, I think if you watched last year's playoffs it was pretty obvious that Pierce and kg were simply done playing at star levels, and rondo had been carrying that team. Too old and slow to justify their contracts, or perhaps even starting roles. They'll be fine in vc or ray Allen type roles for a couple years... But that's not what king thought he'd get when he pulled the trigger, or he wouldn't have given up unprotected picks.

I didn't watch them in the playoffs. But I thought a major story last year was when Rondo was injured the Celtics improved their regular season record.

He's up there, look at how many picks he's traded:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/exe ... bi99x.html

That plus when he does make a pick its rarely good. His best look like Iggy and Plumlee from what I can see. The payroll is 23 mil clear of anyone else and the Nets still stink. You can add together the salaries of the Sixers and Hawks, and its about 2 mil more than BKN alone!

The players whose draft picks King has traded in recent years: Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, Damian Lillard, and potentially Andrew Wiggins/Jabari Parker. Good job Billy.

I think I speak for all non-Nets NBA GMs when I say Billy King is an outstanding front office manager and he should have his contract extended into the next decade.

Drummond was considered to be a high risk pick. Most scouts/"experts" thought he would more than likely be a bust than a good player, probably due to his mediocre numbers in college despite his physical gifts, and also because of his horrific free throw shooting.
The Drummond love is overdone. He's looked like a steal because the Pistons have had low expectations and haven't made the playoffs with him. When push comes to shove, however, you cannot put a guy shooting 29% from the free throw line on the floor in a close game.

He will at some point cost the Pistons a very big game due to that free throw shooting--- hell, he already shies away from the ball in close games, limiting his worth. That handicap will ultimately make Drummond either a part time player on a good team or a big fish on a bottom feeder. Either way, it explains why so many teams passed and why they'd do so again given the opportunity. If we redo that draft, there are still teams who would think long and hard on this guy.

Sounds like you'd want to give BC/King/Stepien a run for their money.

Eh, I'm not worried as much about it as some people are. The NBA Draft is such a Crap shoot anyway, it's not like the NFL where you can get several rounds into a draft and are still picking out quality players. Many people before the season began predicted the Nets would be a top six team in the league, nobody expected Williams to be out almost every game this season so far. And if the Nets don't turn it around soon Kidd will be gone, Proky has not shown a tolerance in coaches who don't produce. Finally and most importantly, Prokhorov has deep pockets and is willing to spend for talent. Regardless of the draft the Nets can always put forward a competitive team because their owner spends money and wants to win.

I didn't really look at the Celtics trade in detail because I just assumed the 1st round picks were lottery protected. I mean, it's literally the most no-brainer thing to do with all trades that involves 1st round picks these days. So obvious that as a fan even I would not consider the possibility of an unprotected pick. And did the Nets really believe Ainge wouldn't agree to such an agreement? At the very least, top-3 protected or something.

I may have found one GM in the NBA I can honestly say I can do a better job than. I may not know much about basketball, but at least I can use logic.

One year he gave some guy the vet minimum, not realizing it would take the Sixers over the tax by like 10K, so he had to give up a 2nd round pick to dump a guy's salary. Seriously. He called it "an accounting error."

Then later, he planned for like 2 years to have a lot of cap room in the summer of 2008. Only in the summer of 2007 he decided that Calvin Booth needed to be given (1) a guarenteed contract and (2) a PLAYER OPTION for the following summer. Then he got fired and Stefanski (A terrible GM in his own right) had to give someone a future first round pick to get them to take Calvin Booth's player option off our hands so we would have enough cap room to sign Brand (which worked out great in case you were wondering)

Garry St. Jean and it's not even close.
