Don't see any teams agreeing to take him on.

Cavs are unlikely just because they are still banking on getting LBJ in the off-season

The only team I 'might' see taking a shot at Gay are the Mavs. But this too is unlikely.
They might be willing to give up Marion's expiring and fillers for him

To the Nets for Paul Pierce (expiring).

It'll be a dumb move on their behalf. But it could be a move that only Prokhorov can make

Have you actually looked at Pierce's numbers, state of health, age? He's worse than Rudy right now. Pierce is looking done, and Rudy is still only 27 and would help their wretched defence.

Agree completely. But I was referring to the fact that their payroll would increase significantly for an extra year which wouldn't help them win a championship anyways.

That's why I said it's a move that only Prok may make

I think the Nets is the most likely destination for Gay. They have the money, contract (Pierce), and desperation to get a deal done. Toronto would actually need the incentive to make this deal though. Others have suggested Plumlee who would be sufficient. Masai would also need to have another deal in place to move Pierce for him to accept this deal.

Guessing Plumlee is near Lowry trade value, so may as well expand the deal. Gay/Lowry for Pierce, Teletovic and Plumlee. Getting Lowry too REALLY helps the Nets with Deron's health, plus they can play a Deron/Lowry backcourt

Gay to the Nets makes so much sense that it probably won't happen.

Raps fan here,

Lowry is my favorite player on the team but I would trade him and Hansbro/Amir for Taj Gibson.

If we acquire Pierce I would buy him out to let him sign with a contender.

I think I solved it. Who says no?
Maybe a few seconds involved as well or we get the wiz #1? Could be a few more throw arounds but in general it works

Toronto: Granger, Vesely, Wiz #1? - Gets exirings for Gay and lowry (tank move)
Nets: Gay, Saraphin - Younger, more athletic
Indiana: Lowry, Ariza - Improve bench and expirings (long term flexibility)
Washington: Pierce, Evans (improved vet leadership for young team that needs it)

If we get Pierce you immediately look to deal him to a contender for a first rounder. Maybe Indiana for Granger?

Or a 3 way deal:

Raptors get - Granger/Indiana 1st/Teletovic

BK gets - Gay

Indiana gets - Pierce/Toronto 2nd

Modification to my previous post

Trade 1
TOR gets: Mike Dunleavy + Tony Snell + Mike James + Nazr Mohammad
CHI gets: Lowry + Daye + Buycks + OKC 2014 2nd

Why Chicago does this: Allows them to compete for this year but only taking back expirings, allowing them to resign Deng. Does not touch their core players.

Trade 2
TOR gets: Omer Asik + Ronnie Brewer
HOU gets: Dunleavy + Novak + Gray

Why Houston does this: Significantly improves outside shooting around Howard and gives a backup C.

Trade 3
TOR gets: Paul Pierce + Mason Plumlee
BKN gets: Gay

Why Brooklyn does this: Gives more production at the SF position than what Pierce is providing and Prokhorov would be willing to pay.

Trade 4
TOR gets: Ben Gordon + POR 2014 1st
CHA gets: Pierce

Why Charlotte does this: Gives veteran leadership to a young team desperate for playoff experience and the Portland pick looks fairly low with the way the trailblazers are playing

James and Brewer are unguaranteed and can be waived

Asik/Val/Plumlee/Mohammad
Amir/Hansbrough/Acy
Fields/Snell
DeRozan/Ross/Gordon
Augustin/Stone

Great for tank.
Trade Val for another top 7 pick in the draft

Toronto In - Amare Stoudimire + Otto Porter + Iman Shumpart + Trevor Ariza

New York In - Nene + Kyle Lowry

Washington In - Rudy Gay + Landry Fields + Tyler Hansbrough

Why for Toronto

We unload Rudy and take back a tank contract with Amare... add young trading pieces with Porter and Shumpart. Unload Fields for Ariza's expiring

Why for New York

Unload Amare and get production from Nene, who has played with Melo. Get a real starting PG

Why for Washington

Win now move to get vets in the locker room and a real starting SF

How in the hell does Gay get you Porter, Shumpert and Ariza. Wiz want NOTHING to do with this deal. This is one of the worst trades I have ever seen for Washington.

Why does Detroit do this? This deal is beyond lop-sided in our favor.

I think DeRozan for Monroe in principal is a good idea but it would have to end up something like DeRozan + Amir for Monroe + Stuckey/CV. And even then they still might not be interested since they drafted KCP to be their SG of the future.

Wiz fan here. I posted this on the Pistons board and wanted your input. I think this gives you salary relief, helps your tank, and gives you a young top 10 pick from this last draft.

Wiz fan here. Not even close on Martell. He is the perfect backup wing for the Wiz and a team leader.
With that said, I think your team identity is quickly defensive minded with steals, transition points, and forcing trunovers. Getting a player with these traits while also spreading the floor seems like a Trevor Ariza to a "T". I am trying to draw together a 3 way to get you Ariza while sending out CV plus incentive.

Something like:

WAS In: A. Johnson (2/6.5M), S. Novak (3/3.7M)
WAS Out: Ariza (1/7.7), T. Booker (1/2.4M)

Det In: Ariza (1/7.7), T. Booker (1/2.4M)
Det Out: CV (1/8.6M), KCP (4/2.7M)

Tor In: CV (1/8.6M), KCP (4/2.7M)
Tor Out: A. Johnson (2/6.5M), S. Novak (3/3.7M)

Washington takes on salary for front court depth and 3pt shooter
Detroit becomes even longer and more athletic while getting a lunch pale PF (Booker) and 3 & D SF (ariza)
Toronto cuts salary and helps the tank while getting a top ten pick from this past draft to build with.

Thoughts on this framework?

I don't mind this. What did Detroit fans say?

Detroit fans don’t like it and are more comfortable with CV+ (a future protected 1st, Siva, or Singler). So which of those look most appealing?

I'd even look to move JV at this point. A great tank, assuming Rondo resigns would be

JV+ Lowry for Rondo. Keep Rondo rehabbing all year

Then move Amir for for Asik

Rudy Gay + Knicks 2016 for CV, Monroe + Filler

We'd tank this year.... get an elite wing, worst case Aaron Gordon... who I actually like a lot

Rondo
DeRozan
Gordon
Monroe
Asik

Ross + Hansbrough still on the bench

Toronto fans need to understand that Ariza, by himself, is arguably a better player on the court than Rudy Gay. Go look at the numbers, look at the efficiency, and factor the defensive impact. Even if they were paid the same money, it's highly questionable whether Washington would trade Ariza straight up for Gay. But then when you factor that Gay makes more than twice as much as Ariza, it becomes completely unpalatable from the Wizards perspective. It's a horrible trade idea that has NO CHANCE of happening.

So it's beyond absurd to see these proposals that involve the Wizards throwing in assets like Porter or a 1st round pick in order to make it happen.
