Awesome signing at 2.75m, he averaged basically 10/7/3/1 from day one we acquired him, our frontcourt is extremely deep for the East.

This is an ok deal from my perspective though frankly how many damn players are we going to stack on the front line? I'm happy this isn't a longer deal for more money because McRoberts isn't very good at all.

or

jefferson, zeller, biz, mcroberts

the latter is definitely more versatile.

Both don't have nothing on Okafor, Brezec, Jamal Sampson, Melvin Ely, Malik Allen and Jahidi White.

Do you remember Linsanity several years ago? For a brief time the NY Knicks turned into a team first, passing, fun-loving three ring circus of a show centered around a high IQ bball phenom, who made the likes of Steve Novak and Landry Fields look like all-stars. Was Lin a better player than Carmelo Anthony? The question seems absurd, and so the Knicks went back to ugly iso ball centered around Anthony. They made the playoffs. Probably a better team centered around a better player right?

I would rather watch the Linsanity Knicks any day of the week.

The story reminds me of McBob. You may think he isn't very good. He's no all-star on his own. But the way he plays, setting picks, looking to pass, hustling for rebounds made the team click, the guys around him better, and set a fun tone in a gloomy season. I would have paid him twice what we did.

(and like with Anthony coming back, I suspect McBob's usage will diminish with the addition of Al Jeff)

There are alot of "great guys" that play team ball. I bet we can find 5 Bobcats fans that, while not particular good players skillwise, would play great team ball and have a great attitude. Problem is this isn't rec ball. This is in the NBA. And while the teaming ability and skill of a player is relevant, it isn't the only attribute or even the most important attribute. Playing McBob double what we signed him for would be ludicrous. There's a reason he's been passed around like a hot potato amongst five teams in six years.

Who honestly cares how many teams he's played for? He fit really well and the Bobcats got him to sign a 2 year contract.

Comparing him to Linsanity is insane. Lin made as much in the 1st year of his contract that Josh will make in this contract. Not to mention that is also true of Lins' 2nd year. Oh and then theres that balloon payment in the 3rd year. So...yeah...really similar. Because they are both free agents?????

You didn't get Snidely's point. He wasn't comparing them contract-wise or comparing Linsanity to the good stretch McBob put together during the end of last season. He tried to make a point that guys like him upon playing the first few games for the new team and doing all the little things in them influence everybody else on the roster. Some great passers can have that effect on a team. Likewise, Lin influenced the Knicks by being this random guy who just started going off for 20 points. It seemed like such a huge morale boost to the other role players since one of them had just started making all these shots that everybody acquired the confidence to shoot with no conscience.

I remember thinking it looked like Kobe really liked playing with McSocks, I mean he actually passed to him. Guess McBob got lost in the Bynum-Gasol mess.

NBA D-League Showcase, Day Four
January 18, 2008
The ship continues to sink for the former top ranked player in the 2005 high school class, as after laying an egg in his first game here, he proceeded to have an even worse outing tonight, shooting 2-10 from the field. Josh McRoberts clearly doesn’t want to be here—that much is obvious from his body language, seemingly floating up and down the floor aimlessly “with his thumb up his [rear end]” as one longtime NBA scout put it. He’s coming off the bench behind two undrafted players in Lance Allred and Cory Violette who look destined for Europe—and quite frankly has not made any type of case for himself to be receiving minutes over them.

Offensively, McRoberts does not seem to have a consistent way of creating points for himself. He looked incredibly soft in the post, fading away from contact, being unable or unwilling to use his body to create space, showing very little in the ways of actual post moves, and settling for bad shots. On the perimeter, McRoberts is making things way too difficult on himself, pulling up off the dribble on more than one occasion for mid-range jumpers (air-balling one of his attempts), and even trying to shoot an NBA 3-pointer.

Defensively, McRoberts could not stay in front of any of the D-League players he tried to guard tonight, and did not really put much effort at all into this part of his game--being outhustled for rebounds as well. Opposing players have been going right at him in both games we saw here, and McRoberts really hasn’t responded to the challenge in the least bit.

The sooner McRoberts realizes how far he is right now from being an NBA player, the better off he’ll be. From what we can tell, the Development League is exactly the place he needs to be at the moment. His lofty recruiting rankings from high school will only take him so far at this point, as he looks pretty close to turning into a cautionary tale if he’s not careful.

What I love about this is it shows that young players get better. So often people on these boards look at a young player and say they suck. They can get better! Sometimes they just need to get their thumb out of their butt.

McBob was the McDonald's All America Player of the Year in 2005. And despite looking 35, he's still only 26.

A capable backup who can also start that can practically average a double double that is playing for $2.5 mil per year is spectacular. Plus, he is a solid big man passer.

This might be the best bargain in the league.

I've always been a fan, but more out of obligation as a hardcore Dukie.

Should've offered him more years on his deal then. Would've loved to lock him up for 4/14 like the Grizzlies just did for Quincy Pondexter.

I want to see McRoberts at least attempt to play the 3 for short stretches while MKG is out.
