I really like Ves being inserted randomly in that lineup. So many fans want to cheer for him. He is such an energy guy. The refs have it out for him. There were 2-3 fouls on Ves that CLEARLY should have gone the other way. Players/Refs pick on him. I'd get frustrated too.
Gortat is a beast defensively, but I'm not overly impressed with his offense. The one quality I like about him, causes him to be a liability...he gets emotional. If someone scores on him, he will keep the ball and try to do the same (bad shot and all). He is such a badass! Vic and him were battling soo much. I really like the Nene/Gortat combo. They will bang with the best of them.
Booker is a "black hole" He rarely passed the ball. It's a quality that concerns me.
GRJ, sigh, people were screaming for him to be put in the game. I have no idea why. He looked like a dear in headlights his past games and played 1 on 5 this game. Funny, when he was finally put in...the guy behind me said he was going to take 7 shots...In the span of 1 min he took three. GRJ = Kobe ilght. I think he is a 2nd round pick that needs more development.
If Porter is a good facilitator, I'd love to see a Porter/Beal dominated lineup that takes a Harden type role. I really like Beal, but I'd rather have two of him vs 1. If Ariza and Webster are stalking the corner three, Wall up top with Nene/Gortat in the middle...that is one awesome starting 5. With Porter/Beal as the "sixth man", that lineup will not give up leads. The problem is I don't know if Porter/Beal can create their own shot.
That's were Ves comes in.. Did you see him driving to the rack against Orlando...
Just kidding. I mean he did do that but he isn't the answer to that problem. The player we are missing is Crawford. He has handles, can pass and can create his own shot. And he will rebound. If we had Crawford vs Manyor, that second unit would look a lot better.
We will have to see how good Otto's handles are. Beal's are getting better. Not good just yet but better.
Back to Ves. He was really battling last night. He defiantly is getting tougher, he looks stronger and I think he gets it more. And on that drive, he did get fouled. It was a nice drive from the top of the key. Got to the line 6 times in 19 minutes. That's what I expected would happen once he stopped fearing going to the line. He only made 2-6 but I think he trusts the form he is using now and I agree, it is better. Hopefully he gets a feel for it. Right now is one of those critical point for him. He has to make at least 65% of those FTs. If he does, he will build confidence in making offensive moves like that one or pump faking for the foul.
I noticed at least two of the missed they were long. I think that is because he doesn't trust just using his arms to shoot yet. With no knees in his motion, he probably thinks it will fall short. I think with practice, this form is going to work for him. He just has to settle down and trust it. He could get to 67-70% with this. I can live with that for now.
20 minutes a game of fighting in the post, fronting players and boxing out, tipping balls, 1-2 steals, some quality board 5-6 total, 4-6 pts and a couple drawn fouls for free throws.... that works given he is 7-0 and athletic.
I see progress.
