JP Arencibia is set to sign with the Texas Rangers on a two year contract. He will be backup to Soto.

Rangers showed interest in Arencibia last offseason.

i reallly wished JPA wouldnt have fallin so far from grace,,if he wouldnt of been such a wooden bat head,,and lowered himself to hit the odd ball to some where in the park instead of trying to only think he is some great homerun hitter,,than maybe he could of stayed with us and helped us

Arencibia will rebound in Texas. That park is good for home run hitters and I'm sure he will get his average up a little bit. Plus, a back-up role, where his suspect defense and game calling will be less glaring, will suit him more.

I don't think we will see an Aaron Hill situation here (Hill was good before 2010-11 and simply got good again with a mechanical adjustment), but JPA won't be as bad as he was in 2013.

Rogers Centre was a more favourable HR park for RHH the past few years than Arlington was. As for helping his average, he could play in a little league park and it wouldn't make a difference to the 30% of his AB's that end up in a K.

I don't think he'll be worse than he was last year, if only for the fact that it was one of the worst seasons of all time, and if he can't start making contact he'll be out of a job entirely.
